1. So, what got you hooked as a U2 fan? What song or album or DVD or message started the fan-becoming process?
  2. A real newbie here I admit as it was Original of the Species that really piqued my interest. I've always known they were there, but I never bothered to listen before last year. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For is what hooked me, though, and I subsequently went out and bought Joshua Tree along with Rattle & Hum. Been going rabid ever since with all the albums, videos, a few books and now the best of the lot, bootlegs! I'll be in Hawaii for my very first U2 show next week. I absolutely cannot freaking wait. Wish I had some audio gear as I'd love to record for you folks what should be a hell of a show. I've heard there may be at least a radio broadcast so hopefully there will be a soundboard available?

    Cheers,
    - Jim

Hi Jim, yeah that would be awesome, a soundboard from one of the most anticipated gigs of the year, let's hope something like that will be happening. I think there cannot be a better show to kick-off your U2 live experience, but also not a worser one since it'll be the last in a while and after your first one, you're sure wanna see more and more and more.. I know how that feels and that feels great! Hope you enjoy it and have the time of your life, I'm sure some great recording will be around somewhere after the show.
  4. I had always been a fan of With or Without You and One but never really seemed to be able to get into much more than those 2 songs. That was until I starting hearing bits and pieces of Original of the Species in the u2 Ipod commericals and thought that sounds really good and decided to check the track out.Well around that time I got approached for a trade and the guy had two 2005 shows on his list 5-12-05 Chicago,Ill and 9-21-05 Chicago with OOTS on them so I picked them up just for that song but got a lot more than I bargained for and I've been a huge fan every since.

ps Oh yeah those 2 shows I mentioned were my first live U2 show I ever heard and are and always will be my fav shows
  5. I love all these questions - it's so much fun! Ok..... I got into U2 in a big way in 1991 with their Achtung Baby album came out. Zoo Station blew me away and I instantly fell in love with U2, and Bono. I ate drank and slept U2. In fact, that whole album (Achtung Baby) is still one of my absolute favourites. And I had no idea it would take 15 years before I got to see them live. I'm a big Madonna fan too and I saw her live in 2004 but when I saw U2 in Auckland, NZ just a few days ago....... they blew me away. It is the absolute best I've ever seen in my life!!!! This is a concert I was truly happy with and walked away happyand in love ha ha. Sometimes it's difficult to see an artist live because you have so much expectation and then might become a bit disappointed, but not with U2. OMG my experience was like no other!!! My hubby and I have said that if they come here or to Australia next time we're going to go twice!!
  6. Well actually it was an old friend of mine, Pietro, I salute him, maybe it's reading ...
Thanks for having pass me this "disease"
  7. For me was my parents in particular my father.......u2 never let me they follow me in every moments of my life even when i didn't know anything about them....if u2 are drugs i m really dependent ......
  8. My Dad bought Joshua Tree on CD [one of his first ever CDs] and I listened to it and thought it was cool but when I saw Rattle & Hum it changed my life totally
  9. Hmmm.. I had various songs on old mix tapes for a long time, but was never hugely fussed as U2 are so accessible, any time you feel like hearing them you just have to flip radio stations for five minutes max, right? So it was a slow build really. Loved Elevation and Beautiful Day when they came out, started paying more attention, bought a couple of videos (Zoo & Popmart - lousy picture quality but GREAT shows) from the dodgy pirate guy at a flea market...

The big kicker moment was when a friend over at a Bowie forum gave me a link to a bootleg site and I finally heard some live stuff for the first time. That version of Gloria (one of the 1989 Dublin Xmas shows I think) blew my head off!

    Been chasing them since. ~Ultra
  10. For me, it was Desire and the Rattle and Hum album back in the late eighties......

I've been completely and utterly hooked since then and still rate that album as my all time favourite. To have finally seen them live a few weeks ago was (almost) a 20 year dream come true!
  11. I downloaded the song Kite off iTunes last year and that got the ball rolling for me. The only album I had before that was the Best of 1980-1990 but now I have every CD and DVD and a number of singles.

I can remember hating the song Mysterious Ways when it first was out, for some reason. I was a bit crazy back then to be honest.
  12. First I heard "Peace on Earth".

It was so magical that I couldn't stop hearing it over and over again.

Then I listened to whole ATYCLB and that was it. Magic happened.
And whan I saw Live from Slane Castle DVD I knew that U2 is band of my life.

    The rest is history...
