  1. I've stolen another idea from @U2. This article was in the 'off the record" column this week:-

    One of things that my friends and I used to do back in my high school days was to try and create superstar bands. We’d pick our favorite guitarist, bassist, drummer, keyboard player, vocalist and song writer and imagine how good that band might sound if you take away the egos and insure that they work together. It was always a lot of fun, but one of the things I noticed back then was that although U2 was my favorite band, I wasn’t keen on picking members of U2 in my superband. Given the chance to do this exercise again today, I still would not have any members of U2 in my mythical band.

    My band would include:

    Vocalist – David Bowie
    Guitarist – David Gilmour
    Bassist – Chris Squire
    Drummer – Stewart Copeland
    Keyboards – Eddie Raynor
    Songwriter – Neil Finn

    Who would be in your band? Please tell us over in the forum. There’s a saying that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and I’ve always thought that this is the case with U2. I think plenty of bands are technically more proficient with their instruments than U2 are, but I don’t think those bands quite capture the magic that U2 does when they write and perform together.
