1. First impression having listened through the Airpods - sounds pretty great, but the differences in the mix are really quite noticeable. This is almost like a whole new version of the album. I hear stuff I’ve never noticed before, other parts have been hidden. So I don’t know how to feel about this being THE main version of the album on Apple Music, but taken out of this context I love it.

On the other hand, I welcome the opportunity to hear a U2 song arranged in the way it was 'supposed to be heard'

Who was in charge of the actual Atmos project that had access to the original tapes? Does Dolby hire engineers and then pursue the rights to the albums? Does anyone from the credits of Achtung Baby sit in on the sessions? No idea how any of this works and super curious given the apparent changes.

Are there other instances of this that anyone can think of? Remasters / later releases where other artists have 'corrected' things other than just remastering the original release? Would be fascinated to learn.

Sounds like Edge and Bono were who they worked with from U2 on the project. They didn't name names but did say they worked with original Engineers where they could. And they mentioned the Sphere remixes came out of this project, and since Brian Eno had a hand in those, I assume he's also been part of the team working on this Atmos mix...

  3. Thanks for putting all of this information together, as always!
  4. Seconded - thanks for all the info!

Admit, I am geeked out about this mix. Really enjoying the subtleties you can hear that were either obscured in the mix or I was just too dumb to notice before.
  5. Isn't this mix supposed to be out on Amazon music today? I'm not seeing it at the moment.
  6. It came out on Amazon music two days ago. It's replaced the basic version on these services. If you have Atmos installed and you play the basic album you should see an indicator that it's playing in Atmos. Otherwise there's no real notification that it's different...

    Cool. Thanks.
  8. Goddamn the acoustic guitar on “One” only three songs in and this is a(fucking)mazing mix
  9. Definitely felt the difference in Zoo Station, So Cruel, Arms, Mysterious Ways, Wild horses and LiB

The 30th Anniversary version is still available without Atmos. So the newer 'original' mix. I have both next to each other in my Apple Music
