1. I'm not a giant fan of the bootlegging business when profit is involved.
  2. Or better yet, invest your money in taping gear and start taping yourself!

    (My solution for everything)
  3. It's gonna be the eXperience hoserama world tour 2018 in that case
    Advice your boss!
  4. Of course, it yet has to be seen if it is the same audio (i.e., the hollowmoons recording). There are some issues with this source. It's hard to believe a bootlegger would release this recording without some mastering first.
But it happens again and again, year after year.

It is curious that people still don't understand the basic business model that is behind these releases: money. And since in their logic time=money, they want to spent as little effort as they can. Maybe there are exceptions (I really like to believe this myself), but I think no-one releases bootlegs without at least breaking even.

Why would they even bother? There is absolutely no interest for the venues to do that. And I guess it will only raise discussion on places you don't want to have them. All the more likely everyone, including U2 says "No."

But there is something crooked here, as security rarely bothers anyone who is filming with their smartphone....
  6. Posting a slightly edited post of mine from the other thread for relevance:

[Taping] is not expressly allowed. I don't think they care so much about online sharing of recordings, but they would take action if they found people selling (well, it'd be the RIAA/Feds more likely). Just keep it a hobby not a profession, and you're ok. I know of 5 different instances of people getting busted this last tour, and three out of the five were dealt with by Homeland Security or an Anti-Terror unit. No laughing matter.

Just like I think the BAND personally is ok with people taping and recording, as long as its just a hobby. However, I wish their policy would change to reflex that. If we didn't have to smuggle in gear and be on alert the whole show, things would be so much easier.

To add, U2's policy is still expressly anti-taping. If it was important to them, they could create a taper friendly policy similar to other bands, but clearly it's not important to them.

Where I think they really drop the ball is refusing to explore soundboard releases. Live releases has become a well oiled machine for other acts, especially through Nugs. Instead U2 is stuck on the old business model of single live releases from a tour, which is such a wasted opportunity. Releasing recordings of every single show would do absolutely nothing to the live release sales of the upcoming Anton Corbijn Joshua Tree hodge-podge release, and they'd make oodles of money through the live releases. Such a miscalculation! I hope one day the lightbulb goes off, like it did for Springsteen.
  7. I agree with you. Although your recordings and from many other tapers are excellent, and I'm very thankful for them. It would be great to download official soundboard releases from U2.com with a membership subscription, even if the fee will be higher. Especially for the shows everyone attends. And it would be great if U2 change their policy pro taping, because I like audience and IEM releases. It's a high risk to smuggle in gear, because I don't have a lot of money to attend shows. I'm also worried about the stronger copyright law surveillance and less internet privacy in the future that I will get a fine, that I can't pay.
  8. Not enough money in that. They already get all people's money through the U2.com fanclub for presales (only reason I purchase it). If they were to shake up the model and release live recordings, they would likely be sold on an individual basis.

Personally I'd want that. If it was free on U2.com, there's very little accountability for quality control. If they're being sold, then consumer feedback on sound quality will need to be taken into consideration.
  9. I agree with you again. I want this too. Quality control is important.

  10. There we go! Four pack festivities!

IEM & Audience matrix of the London and Paris shows. Made by the infamous Empress Valley & The W.T.H. Twins and here on U2start thanks to a call for crowdfunding. All in FLAC & MP3. My apologies for the lack of proper covers, I don't have a scanner so I made some phone photos

These recordings are dedicated to the amazing U2 community and in particular those on U2start who contributed. This one is for you: Paul, Yann, Ed, Jason, Michael, Joyce, Tim, Kirsten, Twan, Rob, Frank, Sergio, Harry, Dean, Jonathan, Frits, Coen, Joost, Ben and seven anonymous fans.

    London 1 (4,5 stars): http://www.u2start.com/shows/1817#!audio
    London 2 (4 stars): http://www.u2start.com/shows/1829#!audio
    Paris 1 (4 stars): http://www.u2start.com/shows/1822/#!audio
    Paris 2 (4 stars): http://www.u2start.com/shows/1827#!audio

Ratings are quite difficult but all recordings sound quite similar to me, with London 1 being the superior one of the bunch. There are two bonus discs with recordings from Noel's performances in Paris and I will put those in a separate topic.

    Enjoy!
  11. Liberated!!! Thanks to all that contributed!
