  1. If only they played some POP now, i feel that tour was way ahead of it's time....
  2. Popmart was a lot better tour than what they are currently rolling out.
  3. i think that some people dont judge Pop because of the songs, maybe the image that the band went through at that time was misunderstood and a lot of people assumed that the band was not as good as it looked in previous years, without even paying attention to the album as a context
  4. Apart from the screen which was cutting edge technology the concept was a bit bonkers. It wasn’t as good a show as ZooTV as the set lists were inferior and way over the top. Pop while good, not as good as AB/Zooropa. They even butchered Streets, mortal sin! I still feel the Pop stuff didn’t sit well with the older stuff in the set list. That didn’t happen on ZooTV or any other tour since.

Really the album Pop should have toured indoors as the music was more suited to arenas rather than stadiums. By the end of the tour all the big hits had returned and some Pop tracks dropped.

There are similarities between the current tour and PopMart in that some of it is a bit over the top (playing inside the screen), but the difference being their latest music doesn’t stray too far from their comfort zone unlike Pop which for some was a step too far.

I think the article is in general spot on.
  5. Yeah the article makes a few valid points,i'm not Popmarts greatest fan by any means but to call the Pop album mediocre is ignorant.
  6. Popmart had its issues. A bit overzealous for what many considered to be dance music, not rock. And having discotheque as the lead single went off like a lead balloon. I remembered hearing it on local radio when it premiered and I was like, what the F was that?? Shame now that the band still won't acknowledge its existence other than a brief mention and having played SATS
  7. I do like Pop very much, it rocks more than Zooropa. The tour had tough start, but after a while there where very good shows in Europe, mexico and south America.
  8. It focuses only on the first night (we all know they had problems, lack of time to rehearse properly etc...), but I can assure you there were plenty of excellent shows (Salt Lake, Washington, Mannheim, Leeds, Sarajevo, Thessaloniki, San Antonio, Mexico City, Santiago, Tokyo). Popmart is easily in their top 3 tours ever.
  9. I only realized how good The popmart tour was so good about 10 years later it was awesome
  10. The Americans didn't get Irony or like the experimental sound they used on POP that's why it didn't work in the US and that's why it's now treated like an outcast .The tour went down very well in Europe and the rest of the world apart from Deutschland and the album sold well and they had 4 UK top 10 singles from it something Achtung Baby failed to do .It was the first tour they ever played South America and a few of those gigs were broadcast live on TV which were incredible most of which are on YouTube .Overall the tour was a massive success yeah it did get off to a shaky start which the media couldn't wait to tell the world but after a few weeks they really hit the ground running .
