1. Every month we put a U2 fan in the spotlight. The fan of the month for May 2019 is user nourssuperstar. Read along for the interview we had with this U2 fan.

"I've seen quite a lot of bands in different kind (metal and rock mostly) for the past 20 years along with U2, and they get you feel close to the band."

Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
I’m Christophe, I live near Liege in Belgium. I’m 37 years old and i work as a social worker in a departement that helps people find jobs. It’s my third job since i left high school, i like to change from times to times, it keeps things interesting.

How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
I don’t know exactly when i became a fan but i was young (8 ? 9 ? ) and it was for sure before the band released Achtung Baby…
One day I picked the New Year’s Day 7´´ from my father’s collection and played it. I remember i told my self… « Oh that is U2 », i already knew the song, because my father played it a lot. It started from there.
When Achtung Baby was realeased, that’s when i started listening to U2 everyday. I constantely played on repeat The Fly and the album in general.
Later, I manage to get a copy of the retransmission of the Sydney concert. It was only one hour long. It blew my mind.
I became a fan much more than my father and make him promise that when U2 comes to town, i want us to go ! He kept his promise and we saw them for the first time in 1997.
The beauty is that as i grow up i bought all of the albums and my father didn’t have them all, so there’s songs like Heartland, etc… that we discovered together.

Does anyone in your family or one of your friends like U2? If so, did they introduce you to U2, or did you "convert" them?
My little sister, Gaëlle, is a U2 fan too. She was there at the Werchter Concert as well.

What does your U2 collection look like? What kind of stuff do you have and how is it organised?
I have all the cd’s and some bootlegs and shirts but I’m not into collecting. For example i’ve bought a record player last year, i’ve only got TUF, TJT, R&H, AB, Zooropa and POP on vinyl. But i don’t plan to buy more.
I’ve got some t-shirts from various eras.

Tell us about the first time you saw U2, back in 1997. What was it like?
It completely blew my mind. It was my first big concert. I saw Tears For Fears before but only with Orzabal and it was a intimate show.
So as i said before, we all went to the show, my father, my sister and my brother and a friend.
It was a dream come true. I honestly though it was the best day of my life even i have no real flashbacks to share with you apart from my sister being on the shoulders of my father so she can see from times to times (she was only 11 or 12 maybe). I only remember that i was really into Pop so i enjoyed all the show i i thought the sound was unreal, loud as hell.

You have seen U2 perform over the course of 20 years, how did they evolve or change over those years?
I’ve seen quite a lot of bands in different kind (metal and rock mostly) for the past 20 years.
U2 get you feel close to the band. I think it’s still the case… I was in Berlin and Amsterdam 2 on the JT17, it was like a party btw friends, so much fun.

In your opinion, what has been U2's defining moment and why?
In my opinion, Sunday Bloody Sunday on R&H defined what U2 is about. The band and Bono are on fire after the bombing and you can feel that anger. Very special moment.

When you're forced to leave to a deserted island and you can take only one U2 album with you, which would it be?
I would probably go with Achtung Baby.

How different is U2 compared to other artists that you like?
I like different kinds of music but mostly rock and metal. Bands are really different and that’s what i like.
But i’ve seen Metallica as much as U2. Like them, you feel like you’re part of the family and they enjoy themselves a lot on stage.

What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?
I run 3 times a week, i like moutain biking too.
I must say nothing beats friends and wine while listening to records.

    Thanks for this interview nourssuperstar!
