Joshua Tree Tour 2019
Legs (1): New Zealand, Australia and Asia
Shows: 15
  1. Lovetown 2019 would have made so much more sense but I think they go with the JT name because of how much more recognizable it is, sucks but at least we know the stage will be amazing.

I think their going in a JT direction may have just been based on practicalities. The thought process must have going something like: “We’re going to Australia this year, we don’t really have time to conceptualize and build a new set for stadium shows, we still have the JT set, why not use it?” That may not be a complete or wholly accurate diagram of their thinking, but I’d be willing to bet that those details contributed to what we now appear to be getting Down Under.

That, in addition to their not getting the original JT anniversary tour to begin with.

I’m kind of curious what the setlist will be like apart from JT, SOI, and SOE (which will clearly feature). If they do a lot from all three, that doesn’t leave a whole lot of the show for many other songs.
  3. For the record, can we consider this a separate tour from JT30/JT2017?

    It is JT2019 after all.

I pray they do a combination, as great as JT2017 was it could be so much better if you blended the best of the Innocence Tour and Experience Tour into this new JT2019 tour. Regardless it would be great but having UTEOTW, Stay, Horses, Acrobat, and some B-stage songs from those shows.

All in all, I pray for diversity. The more they change it up, the more fun it’ll be. But as I said this will be fantastic either way.
  5. Let us all remember that this tour is for markets that haven’t seen the show. I don’t think the argument about rehashing an old tour is overly valid (unless you still have gripes with the JT30 tour in the first place).
  6. playing the setlist game, now that we can possibly assume there will be 11 JT songs.....

    11 JT
    +
9 classics/warhorses (from among IWF, SBS, NYD, Bad, Pride, One, BD, Vertigo, Elevation, COBL, MW, EBTTRT/UV, Gloria, Walk On, etc)

leaving maybe 3-5 spots for something else

    maybe:

    -Acrobat
    -Love is Bigger
    -Little Things
    -Blackout
    -Wild Horses
    -Ordinary Love
    -Drowning Man (lol, yeah right)
-perhaps something new that they've got cooked up

Now if there's fewer than 11 JT songs....
    anything could happen

I think this is what we would get in the perfect world, but realistically they will get the same shows US and Europe got which I’ve kind of missed.

  8. Musically (which is what's really important), my ears preferred JT30 over e+i/i+e. Was it new? No. Was it a fantastic selection of U2's best songs? Yes. Musically, it may have been their strongest tour since ZooTV.

For anybody on that side of the planet who still has the smallest bit of doubt over whether they should go to the JT19 tour, trust me, these are the songs you want to hear.

Now if you legitimately have not liked Joshua Tree as an album for the past 3 decades, well then maybe not. But for the other 99.9% of us, this is what your ears have been hoping for.
  9. My qualms with the tour would have NOTHING to do with the JT section because that is a piece of art, but everything else around it could be varied a tiny bit to make it even better.
  10. I was wrong at the beginning of E&I to think they would play very little from SOI, what the final setlists of that tour looked like is more what I was expecting but I’d still be surprised to see more than 1 or 2 songs from SOI and SOE combined this tour. I really don’t think they’ll play anything from them. I know people in Australia haven’t seen these songs live but I think because of JT being the main focus and the number of album tracks from that they would be playing if it’s in full then the rest of the set will be left for the classics. I love the last 2 albums but I just don’t think the songs will have a place this time round.

I'd be shocked if the other stuff around it was an exact copy of 2017.

For one thing, U2 are well aware of the fact that Aus/Asia didn't get e+i/i+e either. The only question is which of those songs do they think will translate well from arenas up into stadiums.

For me personally, I think I prefer arena version of COBL to stadium. And I kind of don't think they'll do Blackout on the JT stadium stage. But I think Acrobat and Love is Bigger would work. In fact I'd like to imagine that Love is Bigger could be even more glorious in a stadium.
