1. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but all this talk about SOS being shelved or not seeing the light of day feels preposterous to me:

1a) Doesn’t it make sense to hold off on the release until the book has done its thing? Any promotion of a new U2 album (reworked songs or otherwise) immediately generates headlines about the band and takes away from Bono’s solo project. This moment is about him and deservedly so.

1b) I agree with the last post. Why would Bono himself promote an album instead of his book?

    2) I have no reason to doubt @u2wanderer1 regarding the album already being pressed. And if they did get cold feet about this release, that’s a lot of money wasted…let alone money for OTHERS (sponsors, the record label, etc.) that would be left hanging. That just doesn’t make sense, either.

    3) Lost in all this debate are the Kennedy Center Honors in December. That moment will be about the band…what a perfect time frame to reintroduce U2 into the public consciousness with the SOS collection…perhaps?

    4) Deep breaths, everyone. Do I wish this was released already? Or do I wish we had an official date? Of course…my impatience is rooted in excitement for the project. But it’ll come when it comes. Meanwhile, we have this book and mini-tour which has been incredible.

Shout out to @u2wanderer1 for the info…without him, our only SOS news would be Bono’s mention in the back of the book.

    Couldn’t have said it better!
  3. What I have taken from this thread.

U2's inspiration for projects (some not completed) does not meet U2 fans consumer expectation.

Best to keep a lid on it U2.
  4. i hope everyone that has made a rude comment to U2Wanderer1 on here, doesn't forget to acknowledge "oh... i guess he WAS right" when S.O.S does appear. (and not do it next time around)

And with a million other things, like the Australia tour.

In fact he’s always right but things change.

The fact I mentioned the album name by its exact name six weeks before the book / book title was announced should say something about the reliability of the sources here. Bono has confirmed it is coming by name in October, and again when his book was published this month. The November 18 date for the album was given to me in Late February / early March. When I was told in September it was likely to be later I passed that along. I too was hoping for an earlier digital release and was told it was being looked at.

I’ve been publishing advance info for over 20 years now, first at U2Wanderer/U2Tours, and these days at U2Songs. It’s not that hard to look back on our record. There was a time when U2Wanderer announced all the single track lists for the ATYCLB singles. I brought up The Complete U2 before Apple did. We also revealed the Joshua Tree 30 dates and SoE dates before the announcement. There was the Australia tour in 2019 which I was told was “utterly ridiculous and will never happen”, we announced the release date for SOE four months before it was announced, and The Europa EP four months before there was an announcement. We published that Bono and The Edge would be doing promo on Howard Stern, and that the 2018 rehearsals would be in Quebec long before any of that was announced. Are we perfect? No we’ve gotten it wrong at times. Other times U2 have changed plans and things haven’t happened.

I get that it’s hard to put faith in it sometimes. I’m not revealing my sources. I can’t. But I know who they are, and how they are connected back to the band, and I also have to live with whatever I put down, so I try very hard to make sure I have multiple sources for anything I publish and that we don’t publish something that is fake. I don’t get anything back for publishing these. We make no money off the site. There’s no advertising. More traffic just means I pay more each month out of my own pocket.

The Songs of Surrender album is happening. It’s not going to be this year. But we don’t have much longer to wait for it. It will be out before the book I wrote about U2 will be published next year.
  9. Tour dates?

Your work and knowledge is very much appreciated by the vast majority of this fan base by the way.

It’s not announced yet, but news of it has already leaked. Should be announced this week.
  12. Great news !
Definitely an awesome time to be a U2 fan ! (And I’m even saying this while not being able to attend the Surrender show…)
