1. Window In The Skies is still one of my favourite tunes. And it was such a treat hearing it right after the final Vertigo show too then going out and getting the singles early 2007 and 18 Singles not long after the song's release).
The '18' mix with the slightly different vocals is better than the 'single/radio' edit.

Do you mean the Jacknife Lee remix of it?

  2. I'm sure there are songs in the vault we haven't heard, but Chris Thomas has production credits on nearly half the songs on Atomic Bomb.
  3. It's funny that both U2 and Rubin have essentially said "it didn't really work between us" when Windows in the Skies is probably their best single post-Beautiful Day. I still maintain that (and I say this despite it meaning that I never would've got to see them live had they done this) it would've been the perfect song to retire with.

And yes - shout out to All My Life, which (based on that potato quality beach clip we've all heard) sounded like it could've been really special.

As a novel songwriter/band leader that is in the very middle of recording their first album, I can only understand Rick Going into the studio with half-baked songs (sometimes as little as a riff and a melody) is absolutely surreal

There's a slight vocal difference after 'I know I hurt you and I made you cry' like it's a more deeper vocal and at the end there's from memory a slight difference - the one on 18 Singles.
The single version (on either the red or black cover) has a less 'refined' vocal. I don't know if it's a Jacknife remix though.
  6. I’m usually quite good with hearing subtle differences but it must be very subtle with this one, can’t hear even the slightest difference between the single edit and the ‘18 singles’ versions except the very end with the fade out being quicker on the single hence the 7 seconds time difference between the versions.
  7. I would agree. I do remember hearing a full enchilada WITS Jacknife Lee remix.
  8. Aren’t mercy and North Star Rubin songs? They really should just release Songs of Ascent already with these songs. I think Smile is on it too.

Mercy was from the Bomb sessions, the band reworked it in between the legs of the tour in 2010 When they were working on some of the Spider-Man material, that’s where we got songs like return of the stingray guitar, and Glastonbury, that’s when mercy got its overhaul

    Lol, that's totally U2
At least have basic structure and partial lyrics, so you know what the song is about and then wotk on it. Not just couple of riffs and two or 3 rhymes here and there and then try to work something from this... typical U2 "We have songs for 3 albums" means bits and pieces we still need to put together to become songs...
