"I remember Anton [Corbijn] saying, 'Oh there's the Yoshua tree'. He couldn't pronounce the J. So we stood there having our photograph taken by the Yoshua tree. We wanted to laugh but Anton would get very upset if people laughed, or even smiled. It was all very funny, not that you'd know by the facial expressions on the album cover."

The band considered releasing The Joshua Tree as a double-album that would have included B-sides. Bono was the most vocal proponent of the idea, whereas The Edge argued for the 11-track version that was ultimately released.
