"My favorite moment was Edge's guitar solo on Love Is Blindness which closes the album. I remember Edge playing his guitar with hatred, with love, with purpose, with abandonment, with annoyance. All these emotions happening in his personal life he was taken out on his guitar. And suddenly this tune emerged, this conversation came out he was having with a guitar. And I was so jealous that instrumentals can have that eloquent conversation without words. It left me speechless and still does."

While the band and crew were working on the Joshua Tree album's mixing, Lillywhite's wife, singer Kirsty MacColl, volunteered to set the running order for the album. The band told her to put "Where the Streets Have No Name" first and "Mothers of the Disappeared" last, with the rest sequenced according to her preference.
