Just sat and watched the video again - it's been awhile. Chills. Captivating. Couldn't take my eyes off of it. Tons of energy and passion - Something about Bono saying "we plan on being around awhile....maybe forever" in 1983 kind of gets you watching it in 2014.....
Remember - it's 1983. Pretty darn good compared to other stuff from the period, but don't expect 21st century quality. VERY watchable and listenable....
crowd goes back as far as the eye can see - Devore is the largest outdoor amphitheater in the US, and this was right after they had renovated in early 80s....lots of "stuff" for Bono to climb on....crowd surfing before it was called crowd surfing.... etc...
You want to know why they "made it" and what early U2 was all about - here it is. No - they're not just some "English fashion band passing through..." (had a good chuckle at that.....)

"It’s very hard to imagine anyone else being in the Beatles. It’s very hard to imagine anyone else being in U2. People tell me that if you go to a U2 show, when we walk out on stage, everybody has the hairs going up in the back of their neck. What we don’t tell everyone is that happens to us, too. And I don’t know why that is. I think it’s chemistry."
- Bono, 2009
did you know
Starting from Summer 2007 to Summer 2008, U2 had written and recorded 50-60 songs for a new record with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. 11 of these were released on 2009's No Line On The Horizon.
