Performance

The performance at the U2 show in Tempe on April 2, 1987 was a complete contrast to the 1975 show.

Although still on the tour, the song was still not going to make the album, because of a potential club single written called "The Crossing".

For this final show of the tour, "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of" was performed after "Vertigo".

When the song was performed live, it was given a new acoustic arrangement, with Bono playing acoustic guitar for the first time since "War".

During this performance, a popular tour moment was when Bono

Sound

The KeithM master tape (released by JEMS) of U2's show in Tempe on April 2, 1987 is absolutely magnificent; it sounds like nothing else. No comparison can be made to the latest U2, this is a better deal. - April 10, 2005U2 At Tempe...

Audience

The audience at the April 2, 1987 U2 concert at Tempe was angry.

Phoenix police eventually had to surround the concert, preventing U2 from leaving. They'd charged the band with refusing to turn over their stage passes.

The First Amendment, evidently, prevailed. A U2 representative eventually talked them out of leaving.

5. The attacks against the parents of U2 guitarist the Edge.

One of the U2 concerts was at Sun Devil Stadium, where John and Liza Ann Berger lived. Their son, bassist Adam, was killed when a car bomb exploded outside a restaurant,

Overall

U2 began their Joshua Tree Tour in Tempe. This show was a wonderful overview of the past two decades and a wonderful introduction to the Joshua Tree Album which has been so rejuvenating for so many. Setlist:

– Joshua Tree (the Edge makes the first note, Bono is late)

– Stay (I love you, man)

– I Will Follow

– Rain

– Red Hill Mining Town (I couldn't find the link, but I'm pretty sure it was played, what do you think?)

– Daddy's Gotta Make a Living

– Chain of Fools (watch Bono watch Bono perform this one, I think he broke down in tears)

– Bl
