setlist

Performance notes: Live debuts of Hawkmoon 269, Desire, All I Want Is You, and God Part II. Hawkmoon 269 is considerably different to the studio version: although the song is shorter overall, its intro is extended and features beautiful and ethereal guitar work by The Edge. Its seven future performances are done in the same style.

Performance

From what we have from the limited 33-minute-long VHS video of the show that features loads of cuts and only 13 out of the 22-song set, with each song being in varying length, we have a strong opening night from the band with everyone in good form with what we have, I didn't notice any mistakes in the musical performances here and Bono is in fine form already sounding better than a majority if not the entire Joshua Tree tour with him already throwing in some great vocals and top embellishments on the songs.

The only reason why I'm giving this four stars is because I'd rather have the entire show before possibly rating this higher, though, but if the performance kept up at a similar level, I could see this getting to at least 4.5.

Sound

Pretty good sounding audio from a VHS tape, and if you can get over the recording sounding a bit overblown, it actually sounds quite good if you ask me.
Recording: Audience microphone - 2 stars

Audience

Simply there and engaged in some parts of the show, there is nothing else to add.

Overall

From what we have, due to the limited pieces of the show being presented via the 33-minute-long VHS recording, it's a great start to the tour with everyone in strong form already, with Bono, in particular, being an instant highlight due to sounding better than he did when compared to most shows from The Joshua Tree tour. At the same time, he still lacks confidence in places. He still shows off his range by embellishing certain sections of songs, which always sound excellent.

Highlights (Basically the songs we have a decent section of or almost the full songs):
Desire
All Along The Watchtower
Where the Streets Have No Name
I Will Follow
God Part II
In God's Country
When Love Comes To Town
