Performance notes: This show goes down in U2 folklore as the "pizzas for everybody" concert. When Bono is doing his usual channel-hopping before Even Better Than The Real Thing, he comes across an ad for Speedy Pizza and decides to call them and order 10,000 pizzas live from the stage. During the break between the main set and encore, a cart containing 100 boxes of pepperoni pizza are wheeled on stage and the boxes are thrown to the audience. A very good show. It's early enough in the tour that the band are still working out how to play the new songs, so many of them have slight variations to later on in the tour. Mysterious Ways has a different solo and outro. Bono sings something different over One's outro. Wild Horses has altered lyrics ('Who's gonna drive your wild horses over the hills and into the sea?') and a very, very good outro - overall it's one of the best, most cohesive versions of this song. Bullet is good, as always, but seemed rather short. Edge plays a nice little guitar solo at the end of With or Without You. While Love Is Blindness isn't as strong here overall as it is at some other shows, Edge's solo is extremely powerful.
Sound
Pretty good, but it varies. At several songs it's about 4 stars, on the final two it's more like 2.5 stars... On the whole 3.5 is fair; it's a easily listenable bootleg but has lots of fluctuations. Recording: Audience microphone - 3.5 stars
Audience
Very good crowd. Bono calls them the smartest rock and roll audience and the noisiest bastards on Earth.
Overall
Very good show; as it is the average sound quality is the only thing holding it back. This is the classic 'pizzas for everybody' concert, with both the band and audience in high spirits.
Highlights:
- Mysterious Ways
- One
- Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (one of the very best)
- Bad
