1. Great to see these Rattle & Hum playlists

It is indeed a bit of a problematic album / period because of the wonderful b-sides, for instance A Room At The Heartbreak Hotel on the one side, and, well, mainly, as Bloodraven already pointed out, because Van Diemen's Land doesn't have a proper studio cut. I too am curious about the Frankenstein solution, because as far as I'm aware, the Rattle & Hum movie also has Van Diemen's Land starting with applause. But I haven't watched the movie for some years now, so Bloodraven could be right!

Anyway, my solution for the iPod is a separate b-sides album that I've dubbed DESIRE (The original "Rattle & Hum" singles collection) and a distinct playlist also called Desire. This playlist I have for ages so I think I'm gonna try some of your suggestions (including Bloodraven's "Ripping The Stiches" ).

    DESIRE (playlist)

    01. Hawkmoon 269
    02 Dancing Barefoot
    03. Everlasting Love
    04. God Part II
    05. Hallelujah Here She Comes
    06. When Love Comes To Town
    07. Angel Of Harlem
    08. Unchained Melody
    09. A Room At The Heartbreak Hotel
    10. Desire
    11. Heartland
    12. Jesus Christ (from Medium, Rare & Unreleased - volume lowered)
    13. All I Want Is You
    14. Love Rescue Me

DESIRE (The original "Rattle & Hum" singles collection)

    01. God Part II (The Hard Metal Dance mix)
    02. Hallelujah Here She Comes
    03. Dancing Barefoot
    04. When Love Comes To Town (Live From The Kingdom mix)
    05. Angel Of Harlem
    06. Unchained Melody
    07. A Room At The Heartbreak Hotel
    08. Desire (Hollywood Remix)
    09. Love Rescue Me (Live)
    10. All I Want Is You (single edit)
    11. Everlasting Love

...and of course there is some album art to go with it

Let's hope 2018 will see an excellent 30 Anniversary edition with all studio versions and b-sides + a full 1987 concert,
    and/or, a full LoveTown show

That's quite a cool idea. I think I refrained from doing this because the idea of multiple "lost albums" between Atomic Bomb and Songs of Innocence has kept me hopeful we'll get more unreleased tracks.

I had a similar idea though, here's my bridge between ATYCLB and HTDAAB:

So instead of releasing the Target EP, U2 goes and finishes up some leftover demos and does a couple of new songs. Rolled out on the heels of the Electrical Storm single and their new Best Of collection, they drop an album in 2002 (which I've called The Cracked Sky).

    The Cracked Sky [2002]:

    1. Summer Rain
    2. Electrical Storm (William Orbit mix because it flows better)
    3. Always
    4. Love You Like Mad
    5. The Hands That Built America
    6. Smile
    7. Levitate
    8. Flower Child
    9. Angels Too Tied To The Ground (deluxe edition version with Bono's updated vocals)
    10. Are You Gonna Wait Forever?
    11. Neon Lights
  8. Inspired by Alvins post above my ATYCLB + HTDAAAB mash up would look like this

    1. City Of Blinding Lights
    2. Stuck In A Moment
    3. Walk On
    4. Kite
    5. Crumbs From Your Table
    6. New York
    7. Miracle Drug
    8. Love And Peace
    9. When I Look At The World
    10. Peace On Earth
    11. Original Of The Species
    12.Yahweh
    13. Ground Beneath Her Feet
  9. Currently working on redoing the tracklisting of Songs of Innocence as well, since half that album is super cringy to listen to in my opinion (looking at you Raised By Wolves). Trying to figure a way to get Invisible and Ordinary Love on there and make the tracklisting flow better than the original which felt like a cross between Danger Mouse cuts and songs more reminiscent of prior albums.

Anyone else tried anything with Songs of Innocence?
