1. Today marks 25 years since the Zoo-TV tour found its way down the yellow brick road to Sydney, Australia; 2 years into the tour. "Welcome to Zoo-TV y'all"

I was in the crowd that hot and humid November night and vividly remember being stunned by the stage set up. While there had been some coverage on 60 Minutes, these were the pre-internet days so things like the groundbreaking visuals and the set list were largely unknown to the audience.

The DVD is a great record of the show but the direct audio recording masks the horrible acoustics of the Sydney Football Stadium. The sound echoed and bounced off the concrete surfaces, resulting in a muddy cacophony of sound. You get some sense of that when Bono talks before EBTTRT. On the flip side, it does amplify the crowd noise.

I thought at the time that the ending was a bit flat - an unfamiliar mix of WOWY into LIB and then a melancholy CHFIL; but have grown to appreciate these. The rest of the show was fabulous, with the highlight for me being the triplet of BTBS - RTSS - WTSHNN. The transitions from one to another are sublime but it is the emotions in each that do it. The anger in Bullet is palpable, the pain in Running raw and Streets is pure ecstasy.

An unforgettable night, recorded for posterity, that I was a part of.
  2. It's great,to have a show that you're at filmed. Was at both Chicago shows filmed for the Vertigo Tour, but would have killed to be at ZooTv.
  3. It's Nov 26th (at least in this side of the world) so technically tonight it's 25 years to the day when Stuart filled in for Adam
  4. I wonder if anyone can share there experience from that night (the 26th November)? I wonder what the fans were thinking when Adam didn’t walk out with the band and how it effected the show overall.

The show has it's moments such as NYD,Dirty Day ,Crashed car ,LIB but the sound was horrendous they spent so much money on the screens and lights but the most important component they failed to get right even though they had played the venue the previous night. The audio from the RDS in Dublin which was broadcast live on Radio wasn't much better a lot of echo and flat in places whoever was in charge of mixing the sound should have been sacked. There were some great recordings from that tour Zoo Radio was excellent quality as was the Zoo tv documentary which had several live songs on it.
  6. Stu-TV I think this show is referred to somewhere. I was there on the Friday night, seats on the Eastern side of the SFS lower deck about half way up (Adam's side). I arrived a little late, during Zoo Station from memory. So I had a double-take when I thought, gee that's not Adam under the hat. My first thought then was Adam may be pissed and wasn't well enough for the show. Bono did introduce Stuart during the show and did say that Adam is 'unwell' from memory. As for the show, highlights for me were Dirty Day, Bullet>Running>Streets and DGPFYCC. Stuart played well, done fine from my view. He probably wasn't as active as Adam usually is on stage but that was understandable. Regarding the crowd, probably didn't matter that Adam wasn't on stage from where I was standing.

Thanks for that insight, really interesting to hear from someone who was actually there. Also great to hear how the night that was released went as described in the first post, zoo tv Sydney is as good as it gets.
  8. Perfection
  9. I watched it on PPV Live. It was a Saturday as I remember correctly. I also remember the live audio broadcast of Zoo Dublin.
  10. I hunted down the Sydney ticket stub on eBay. A prized possession.
  11. Agree with the earlier comments on sound quality. Overall good show, but one of the worst audio mixes I have heard for a live show. There was some improvement on the DVD a few years ago with the DTS mix. That was the best the show has ever sounded. Setlist was great though. The Lemon to WOWY transition was awesome.
  12. Bummed that I no longer have mine, couldn't afford a program and the t-shirt is long gone.
