1. I just heard the U2start.com download of the Sydney Vertigo concert from which Kite version was added on the Window in the Skies single and I was astonished to find out that the single version's Kite guitar solo at the end was 28 seconds shorter than the actual concert version that I have downloaded from u2start.com. I think it's very unfair to shorten the magnificent guitar solo on the official single version. Is there any such incident before this on any other official live version ?
  2. Yep, with or without you on the Please Popheart live EP. Worst edit ever.
  3. Bad from paris I&E has quite a bit edited out the solo where Bono is putting the French flag on the drum kit. They showed the full length version on the tv broadcast I believe but shortened it on the release. Not a cut in the song but Mercy from wide awake in Europe also has bits edited in which I think are very clearly noticeable as patched in bits. Really poorly done, I can understand them wanting to put in the proper lyrics because Bono sort of mumbled over that bit but they could have done a better job of the edit itself. ‘Time in a bed of rust’ and ‘rhyme for love and lust’ bits.

Thanks for the info..... In fact, Mercy live version is nowhere near the demo version and the lyrics on the live version is also inferior to the demo version.

Yeah the original version of Mercy is far superior in every way. But I think Bono had likely put a new set of lyrics down for it as at some of the shows he was singing them more clearly but I was at the brussels gig which is where wide awake in Europe is taken and as you’ll hear on YouTube or recordings on here it was a bit of a jumble of words during they particular lyrics but edited in badly after to be the ‘new’ lyrics.

Here’s 2 videos to compare, the first being the edited version that someone has made a multicam with and the 2nd being how it was actually sang live (1 minute 34 seconds on video 1, 1 minute 42 seconds on video 2).

  7. I'd say U2's live releases might have a lot of "fixing up", including overdubs and pitch correction.
Popmart Mexico broadcast, intro to NYD... Larry drops a stick, drums cut out, Edge winces... but it's looped over in the dvd
  8. Here is one example:

I tend not to mind all that stuff when it’s done well, generally speaking there editing is pretty good. Mercy is probably my biggest gripe because it’s the only official release of the song and is awfully done. WOWY from popheart is worse really stopping the song early but we’ve got several versions of the song live. Kite and Bad are shortened but to the ear sound fine.
