1. Same thoughts…they continue to eviscerate any life or soul these songs had when originally recorded. It’s awful.
  2. If they had released one track every month during the pandemic, I think it would have been easier to appriciate the 40 songs: isolation in home studios during lockdown would have made sense of stripped down versions.
    But now?
    Uninteresting.

Agreed. During the pandemic, U2 offered nothing while other bands opened the vault. Radiohead was a class act; U2 did nothing for its fanbase.
  4. Why are they promoting sub par, novice video "commissions"again? The Songs of Innocence video commissions were pedestrian, at best. Completely forgettable visual representations. Why repeat this gaff?
  5. I find this very surprisingly beautiful.

I haven't been following anything about U2 for a couple years now, completely tuned out to go to more niche music, completely rejecting the more classic pop rock of U2.

Somehow this Songs of Surrender album seems to pop out at precisely the right time, everything I've heard from it has made me nostalgic and touched me emotionally.

When I heard of the next U2 album being only re-recorded songs I couldn't be less interested. Now I'm very much looking forward to whatever weird musical nostalgic adventure this album will be. Hoping for much more like this one !
  6. Sounds good and fresh to me

Because they want to engage young filmmakers and/or tired of their own image on the screen.
  9. I agree that the mix sounds terrible on this. But quite honestly, it's probably my favorite when compared to the SOS: Pride, With Or Without You, and One, renditions (though, that could be because only snippets have been released)..

With the heavy lyrical (and vocal) change, this seems to be more of an "experienced" companion version of the original, rather than a weird remake, like the others.

I just hope there are at least a few gems on this record; it's rather hard to stay optimistic, however....

Unrelated thought: since SoS is basically looking to be a massive acoustic compilation album, maybe someone can make a thread for ranking the tracks upon release. That could be fun (especially if the album isn't).
