1. alright, shame on me, but I have to ask... and I'm sure it's been said somewhere way earlier in this topic but I can't really find it and am too lazy to read back more than 20 pages, so there.... what's the words Bono is kind of "rapping" or speaking at the end of the MoS live version? just watched Zurich II again and realized I still don't know.... anyone? *hides*
  2. Most of the time it must be something like :

"Life is short but it's the longest thing you'll ever do,
    the worst, the curse, was when that dream came true ;
God is a mirror in which each man sees himself,
Hell is a place where you don't need any help,
When I first met you your face was like snow
    Wherever I went, you, you wanted to go ;
Your face, your grace, your lipstick case
A-17 you put it down on the ground,
Don't put your faith in a clown"

But it changes almost every night, and it's not always easy to hear, so I'm not sure at all.

    whats A-17?

  4. I don't know... Maybe he refers to something he's the only one knowing. Or maybe it's 8:17, but why on the ground ? Might be a bongolese signification
  5. From Rose Bowl DVD:

    Life is short
But it's the longest thing you'll ever do
    The worse, the curse
Is that your dreams came true
God is a mirror in which each man sees himself
Hell is a place where you don't need any help
When I first met you, your face was like snow
Wherever I went, you wanted to go
Your face, your grace, your lipstick case
Your case that you put it down
    Eight seventeen on the ground
    Your faith in a clown
    Don't leave me now
    Don't leave me now
    I love you so
    Don't leave me know
    I love you so

Most of this seems accurate, some things I hear a little differently:

    lipstick trace instead of case
might be A-17 (a plane) instead of 8-17
and "I love you so" sounds like "alone in this song" to me.

Since Pasadena, he varies a few lines anyway.

  7. I love that "God is a mirror that every man sees himself" line
  8. I love it too.

And life is short but it's the longest thing you'll ever do ===>

  9. that is indeed the most impressive line

thanks, everyone, for coming up with what Bono's saying there, cheers

only recently I'm rediscovering the live version of MoS. It moved me deeply when I heard it live during the concerts, but after my last concert in September it kind of didn't work for me again, and I turned back to the album version.... which still is among the most incredible songs they ever did. Epic.
  10. Indeed, this is such a great song. Since the album came out, it's the only song of NLOTH I have not got bored of yet.

I actually like what Bono's doing with it now vocally, but it'd work better shifted to another place in the set. No one wants to walk out of a big stadium gig sad and contemplative.

People left more on a high after Brisbane 2 I felt and part of it was probably the closer WOWY - not MOS. I've always questioned the position of NLOTH tracks on this tour. Why NLOTH itself wasn't the opener has always baffled me.

I don't know if these are fully correct, but I'm pretty sure that "Eight seventeen" is actually "Age seventeen"

    I also hear:

*" Lipstick trace" instead of "Lipstick case"
    * "A love song" instead of "I Love you so"
"The worst, the curse" instead of "The worse, the curse"
