1. I don't know anything about this band except they're from Manchester and they're reuniting this year and half the music world is eager to see them live.

Do you know them? Do you like them? Do you care sharing the songs you like the most? Thanks

  2. Very "cool" band...perhaps a bit too cool. I was never that into them early on (I preferred Guns N Roses) but became a casual fan - after they were no longer cool.

They were very big in the late 80's/early 90's in more "alternative" scenes (at least here in Canada) even though they had only one official studio album - and a bunch of singles. Off the top of my head, Fool's Gold, I Wanna Be Adored, and I Am The Resurrection are three bigs hits from this era. Their much-anticipated "second coming" - which was the title of their 1994 album - was a bit of a disappointment to both critics and fans. However, it has some great tracks - Begging You and Breaking into Heaven are my two favourites while Love Spreads and Ten-Story Love Song got a lot of airplay.

I'd recommend starting with the 2002 release The Very Best of The Stone Roses. It's got a bit of everything. My only cristism of it is that the extended intro of Breaking into Heaven has been editted.

  3. the selftitled album is surely a milestone in Brit music .. it's very influenced by english music from th 60's (psychedelic, gutar riff style etc) and at the same time it had great influence for what comes in England in 90's .. it's surely a point of reference for the "Manchester movement" and not only.
I wanna be adored .. Waterfall .. Shoot you down ...
Fools Gold is an outstanding song of all time
then one mornign John Squire woke up thinking he was Jimmy Page and here Second coming hehehe .. not what was expected but quite a nice album anyway.

glad for the reunion .. hoping they'll go on from where they left

    Very true indeed.
  5. love them, they're the band Oasis tried - but never came close - to be.

the self titled is a 10/10 classic. i'm gutted i couldn't get tickets to the reunion shows!

as for the best songs - I Am The Resurrection, Made of Stone, This Is The One, Ten Storey Love Song. they're so consistently good that you can't really go wrong with whatever you choose to start with, though.
  6. Great Band. Great first album and Second Coming sounds like early 70's blues (majority of the songs).

  7. I love these guys and I wish I could see them live but I know they'll never tour the US
  8. Yeah, great band. Listening to them earlier. Ian Brown's solo stuff is worth checking out also, probably the most notable is F.E.A.R.

Some great tracks already posted here, but my personal favourite is....This Is The One. For all those who say they wish to see them live, I can say (in some capacity) I have. Ian Brown performed a vocal only track of This Is The One live at Old Trafford for Gary Neville's Testimonial game. He's got some decent vocals on him (not my video, I had great seats on the halfway line)

And to place the album version up for those interested:

  9. Great Band...would've been a great opener for U2....just name a tour, they would've fit from Zoo TV on. "Love Spreads," is a great song. I also agree with the poster who said they were the band Oasis tried to be. Great point.
  10. I listened a lot of that "Madchester" stuff back in the early 90's ! i think i still have all the vinyl LP's somewhere !
Beside the Stone Roses where bands like Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, James, The Charlatans, Soup Dragons, The Farm, The Fall, Primal Scream, Jesus Jones....

oh and i loved the Rickenbacker bass from Mani
  11. Roll on T in the Park, i listen to them al least once per week, but seeing them live is going to be a gift from god..... its going to go off.........
  12. today tomorrow and sunday home shows in Manchester ...

    will anyone attend?
