The first 'One Love' distorts at my rip...sounds kinda funny actually. Completely 'into' the song, singing along...'You say...%^@$#@# Love..One Life...'
  2. im not talking about just little bits and pieces it's the whole damn thing!!

any1 here ripped the live 8 dvds??? the whole damn thing is distorted...
  3. The distortion on that show was absolutely terrible - though I think there's a 5.1 DTS AC3 recording on the disc if I remember. That one has no distortion whereas the 2.0 channel one has it badly with certain programs. I think it's the mics and sound equipment used initially at the shows too and the original recording volume (almost certain to be bloody high).

When you say distortion do you mean microphone feedback, heavy static (could be from the feeds) or just that it sounds like it's breaking up? I get this quite often on lower-quality recordings - Go Home was a great example of this.

It also makes me think that it's had some heavy filtering applied - though this would require more investigation into it. The original tapes for early shows (pre-Sydney) which have been upgraded to newer formats almost all have distorted sound (though Mexico takes the cake for this), and even the post-Go Home shows have distorted sound. There is a KHz standard for non-DVDs and DVDs too - this is what you might be using and could be doing many things to the recording which you wouldn't pick up (with the iPod, as it has very poor audio quality, sub-standard to the mini). I think 44.1KHz (44100 Hertz) and 48KHz (48000 Hertz) are the ones from memory but don't put your money on it because it could be wrong.

An idea might be to try something different - maybe an AC3 rip instead of what you're currently ripping it to. I know this isn't what you probably want to do, but give this a crack - I haven't had any distortion problems since using this:

Try a search for sound distortion using imtoo and that should give you some ideas.

Yes, sorry, we (as usual) gone offtopic too quick. I didn't rip them, but Drew has given you a suitable answer
