1. Oh yeah! Rotterdam 93 too, I forgot it! It's Gerard's favorite version too ...
  2. I was wondering if this edit I make would be worth sharing? What I am doing really is no big deal - some might say a bit (very?) blasphemous. And I don't plan on messing around will sound quality aside from ensuring all the tracks have somewhat the same sound level. Anyway, I like to listen to the songs and get a bit bored of Bono's channel surfing, phone calls, (I know, I know - they were an essential part of a Zoo TV show - I watched him call George Bush back in '92) and the (in)famous) Bono speeches. I was going to use my Sydney DVD rip (can't share that) so what I will now do is take MOST of the Dublin show and put in the ISHFWLF from Rotterdam '93. Oh, and good-bye WLCTT. I never have been able to enjoy that song and doubt I ever will be.

If there is interest - how/where do I upload something like this for sharing? Mediafire? Megaupload? I suppose I have to create an account? I am embarrassed to say that my download to upload ratio is infinity. Tsk, tsk.

The crowd is HUGE in this version, in the recording it literally sounds like everyone in the stadium is singing with Bono. Plus Bono's screw ups with the lyrics only make the performance that much more magical:

I have held, hand of the devil
I have kissed, the hand of the devil
it was warm in the night,
I was cold as a stone

Then during the regular break, he sings an extra verse (if it was improvised I'm impressed), this extra verse always gives me goosebumps:
(I think this is what he's saying)

I have kissed, more than I see
    More than the light
    More than the dreams
    I'm caught in the rapture,
i'm caught in the rapture of your love

    I have reached, for answers
I have questioned, too many now
    Too many to get answered
    In one long night

that last stanza is what it's all about my friends.

I love that improvised verse, but had never been too sure of that final line. I think you're right. thanks!

I'd share it but it has too much from the Boston and Slane DVD rips. Any suggestions there as to other shows (aside from the previously-mentioned Notre Dame show and the MSG show) I could use and then share later for an Elevation mix...not to brag but the one I've made isn;t too shabby.

How's the sound on the '93 Rotterdam show - or the Verona show? I have a bootleg from several years ago called "After the Fire, Before the Flood" (it might be betterknown as Zoocoustic) that has the Rotterdam version (I think) but the sound quality is ho-hum.

I reckon it's the same version. I'd copied a version from that cd years ago and lost it. Tried hunting it down and eventually realised it was on the Rotterdam boot here on this site. The sound may not be as good as Dublin, but is worth it for Bono messing up a lyric and then coming up with a brilliant improvised verse. Human error followed by magic. Classic Bono. It's why we love him. There's something special about the b-stage zoo tv stuff too. That Rotterdam show seemed to have been a loose one with some interesting versions - see Bullet. I wonder what they were up to the night before or was it just the late nights finishing off Zooropa (May '93)?

PS. There's also a version somewhere from a Candian OB gig with Daniel Lanois playing some gritty guitar on ISHF, but hard to get it with decent sound.
  5. vertigo milan - the best

  6. I didn't know about it until I saw you guys mention it the other day. Been hooked ever since, and can't get that 2nd verse out of my head. Awesome.
  7. My favourite version is the 2017 live version on the new single.
  8. Because of the arrangement at the beginning and Bono singing all the lyrics I think that makes it a strong contender as well.

  10. Dortmund, 1992-06-04 anyone?
Funny speech, false start, extra verse in the middle.
