1. uno dos tres catorze in the language of location in the dark then instead Vertigo a short buzz, a short sound of an alarm . Full white light an explosion ( all these in 10/15 seconds) ,crowd get mad and finally the first song could be "until the end of the world" or an incipit of full delay by The Edge. It's a dream don't shoot me i'm only a u2 fan.Or better...
    1) an alarm in the dark
    2) the count, the incipit of Vertigo in the dark
    3) a short sound of an explosion in the dark
    4) delay of The Edge full white light
  2. and a special mix of windows in the sky not sung but only instrumental base, with the most famous snippets of music hystory? Not so bad, it's ok with Innocence and with Experience tour do you agree?
  3. I was sitting in the Point Depot floor the other day, waiting to U2 to come out while I listened to George Michael's Freedom! '90 and I realized that The Blackout, as much as I despise some of its lyrics, is the best tour opener I have ever witnessed.

First time I saw them was 2005 and they opened with Vertigo. Energetic but lame - and don't get me started on the fact that they played it at the end of the show as well I missed COBL opening some 2005 and 2006 shows because it didn't happen in Europe - I despise the song nowadays but I reckon it was a damn great show opener.

Second time was 2009, opening the show and tour with Breathe. I love the song but it definitely lacked something as an opener. Audience didn't care about it, they didn't really engage with the song, and it has a strage tempo to which you can't jump along. A shame.

Then came 2010 and they opened with Stingray Guitar, an instrumental that they later recycled for Lucifer's Hands, and then Beautiful Day, the song I look forward the least ever in a setlist. I better shut up.

2015 saw The Miracle opening 100% of the shows. Right tempo to jump, nice lyrics to sing along... but it lacked something too. Maybe it was Bono's chants before the song started, which I didn't really dig... Maybe it was something about the simple yellow lighting when the stage had the potential to do a great visual spectacle, don't know. It's still the 2nd best opener I've seen.

SBS opening TJT30 shows was as bad as show openers get for me. It's grown to be my least favorite tour of all times so bashing the opener is just mandatory, lol. The only good thing about it is that it wasn't a half-arsed semi acoustic version like the one they played in the IE and EI tours.

The Blackout has it all, and I had never seen the audience so engaged and passionate from minute 1. Even people who didn't know the song or even cared about SOE at all were jumping and clapping, which was great to see. The Chaplin video also did a great job and it's quite probably the best show intro since Zoo TV.

    fully agree !
  5. I love the Blackout as an opener, but nothing will ever top Zoo Station.
  6. Blackout probably is the best opener I’ve witnessed in person. I think EBTTRT and COBL are better openers but I never got to see them, I probably prefer breathe slightly to blackout as a song but blackout worked better in the opening slot. In terms of all time I would probably rank them something like this

    1. Zoo station
    2. Streets
    3. COBL
    4. EBTTRT
    5. 11 o’clock tick tock
    6. (Tied) Blackout/ Mofo

After that I find it quite hard to seperate them but that covers a few of them for now.
  7. I really liked Sunday Bloody Sunday as an opener, the whole stadium got super excited last year during the JT 30, dont understand all the hate. Also the Blackout this year was even better
  8. Mofo

Completely agree (although I haven't seen many of these live), The Blackout is a raw powerhouse!

And regarding ROTSG, it could worked if it had lead into I Will Follow or some other song with punch... but into Beautiful Day? A song that has a long intro before it really kicks in?

Seems to me like it would be an energy killer so early in the show.
  10. Stingray into beautiful Day actually worked quite well as far as I can remember in Brussels. I think with Stingray people were just going crazy with the band particularly bono just bouncing around and sort of willing the crowd on, then into beautiful Day which is a big crowd pleaser. I just can’t rate stingray too highly on its own though because as a stand alone song it really was just a work in progress at the time.
  11. Zoo station followed very close by mofo....
