1. It’s pretty simple really. There’s no tour coming up so save your cash on the membership and get the Blu-ray for cheaper when it comes out.

Let’s face it, no one pays for the membership to get the gift, it’s purely for the ticket presales.

Let's investigate another example of U2's releases when it comes to fans vs average consumer.

The version of From the Sky Down that came with the Uber Deluxe Achtung Baby anniversary set was the short version (and on DVD) - and the Blu Ray that came out shortly later was the full/extended version. The version that came with a $400 set wasn't the full version, and it wasn't on the highest quality format - but the one that anybody could buy was the "better" version. Tell me how the fuck that makes sense, other than U2 wanting to squeeze even more money out of the people willing to already spend 400 bucks on that uber set. The funny part is, the "full" version is the one that was originally televised, meaning it was done - ready to go.

I'm not saying this is the rule of thumb, but do you really believe what you're saying? It'd make absolutely no sense for them to release a shittier version commercially afterwards.

They're straight up giving this as the gift because A) it's incredibly cheap to produce DVDs, B) the work is already done in terms of getting this thing edited and ready for release because C) they're going to be releasing it on Blu-Ray in stores because they want to make more money off of it, and finally D) it means they didn't have to think of a gift for this year. They thought "shit, let's just give them this, it's ready to go and they'll be happy with it." - "Oh, but we have ___ subscribers, do you want to spend ____ giving them all blu rays? or ____ (significantly smaller amount) to give them DVDs?" - "DVDs - they'll be happy with that."

There's no way this doesn't come out later in the year in higher quality formats, and at a lower price than a subscription to U2.com. Honestly, even if they were giving us a blu ray - it's still kind of bullshit to me. Give something to the fans that's exclusive to the fan club, c'mon.

I'm also certain that it's not actually U2 making these decisions, they probably have a team who handles it - but that's not really a good excuse to me, they're still at the top and this is still a bunk way to treat fans who want to shell out money for your fan club.

I just find it almost too hard to believe they’d be so blatant to release it in a better format for less to the public. It would sort of be a first. Other gifts have been available in different but not really comparable formats ie zoo tv, go home and the 3 examples of gifts that were also available without a subscription were only digital and vinyl as opposed to cd which are all technically inferior formats. This couldn’t really be justified this time. A digital only release would be fine, a significantly shorter release fine but the same thing in better format for less no way.

I wouldn't say there is no way. I'm guessing their next commercial release is the JT 2017 tour on multiple formats this year. So that would push this release "if they were going to release it commercially" most likely to 2021. My "guess" is the fall of 2021 they will be looking at a possible new album versus releasing another Blu Ray. I could very well be wrong, but I do not think the Experience tour being commercially released complete is a foregone conclusion now that it is a fan club gift. I would say it is less likely in fact.
  5. Defo the Joshua tree film Next makes sense of this as a gift. They hardly promoted this on tv. It was out in Japan and they hadn’t even announced it on there website. Makes u think they are more focused on something else JTree
  6. I will be absolutely amazed if this doesn't get released commercially. Surely if it was a fan club exclusive they would be pushing this narrative, to get an influx of re-subscriptions.

I think they already have their out with the accompanying booklet being the exclusive element for the fan club gift.

Well they’re promoting on the fan club page and promoted it on social media platforms. I think the news will have reached the vast majority of fans that would normally buy a tour dvd anyway.

Commercial release doesn't necessarily mean they are releasing a physical version of it either...Could easily release a digital only version down the road, or even a streaming only version which may be why they aren't promoting this as an exclusive...music concert sales are a dying market, but so are physical releases in general...

The market has retracted, but not gone. Many people say that the vinyl had been extinguished, and today the LP's came back in full force. Big stores like WalMart and BestBuy still have huge sections of DVDs, BluRays and 4k.

We can see in this video.

The market is just regulating itself.

A new technology does not extinguish the previous ones, and claiming that people do not buy physical media because of the streamings does not reflect reality. Before streaming, there were video stores and most people didn't buy. Only collectors bought it, or when we had a very special film for us.

I'm sure, everyone says today that the CD and digital media are going extinct, but these same people will see that these items will come back soon as special items, and much more expensive than they were.
  10. And another thing. The bands are not selling their shows to the streamings like a Netflix because physical media is old, but because they want something that is immune to piracy. This is the goal.
