Believe me I know what the methodology of research is and the canopy that comes with it too. Well versed.
What I provide here is one source of archive that was the standard thought for a long time on this particular date in question.

Exactamundo. It might have been published in the early 1990's but this was the common consensus long before publication that 5th October was the date and Pimm went to great lengths collating info for those books.

That's not to say Chinese whispers don't happen. But yeah, 5th October was always the consensus on this show before Pimms books.

Before Pimm sadly passed away I would help him with his research, as did many others too, for the book he eventually published.

He was very thorough and could easily have written an abstract for a doctorate thesis based on his methodology.
  4. Yeah, and Collectormania was bloody awesome too.

Which reminds me of another one called Into The Heart - that was another top-drawer A4 fanzine in colour from downunder - the guy who produced it, Chris somebody, I forget his name now, saw a good chunk of the Lovetown tour, and documented it all - bloody amazing read if you ever come across any of them.
  5. I have a feeling that there could well be a huge wadge of people wandering around in these new t-shirts who weren't at the shows (obviously) but weren't yet born either! Interesting! Fun though, I quite like em.

Thank for sharing your experience researching. His conscientiousness was impressive and inspiring.
  7. Is there a size guide for these Shirts on u2.com

    I believe you're referring to this 😊

Great book I have 2 editions of it ,is it going to be updated to present day ?Now would be a good time to do it as I can't see them touring for a long time in the current climate.

In answer to that question, I do not know. It would need someone, or a coterie of people, as dedicated as Pimm to resurrect this undertaking.

Looking on my shelf I see there were three editions of this book published.

It would be so good to see everything from the year 2001 up to present day documented this way along with updates and revision to the original text.

The resources are all available to collate thanks to internet web sites that have documented the audio recordings very efficiently since 2001 (and before).

Let's leave the last word to Willie Williams...

“Some time after the Zoo TV tour, the book U2 Live: A Concert Documentary dropped into my lap and left me speechless. Being something of an archivist myself I was deeply impressed by such a comprehensive history of U2’s live career — especially as this was long before the internet made this kind of data collection much more feasible.
The book instantly became U2’s final authority on all things regarding touring history. On tour, I carry a copy in my work box and there’s always one on the band’s aeroplane, largely for solving arguments over important issues like exactly when we first played in Detroit, or the name of that club in Burton-on-Trent where Bono first went body surfing. It would also make us laugh too, like a family photo album, with its occasional painfully frank reports about certain events or performances.”
