This video comes from the proshot, you can here the mistake at 3:16

This is from the actual DVD, the visual quality is much worse but you can hear how the mistake has been edited at 3:18 - obviously you'd be able to see it properly on the DVD
Yeah the broadcast version of Sydney was quite different to the version later released in VHS and DVD too - that's understandable and I don't really count them as continuity errors because I understand how hard it must be to edit and produce something that's going up in the air live (or almost-live).
  2. I always assumed they never bothered filming night 1 cos of the gap between the shows...

What I've always wondered is: did they leave the stage untouched from night 1 to night 2 one week later? And all the recording gear etc? I don't think Lord Henry was too happy about all these tonnes of steel messing his grass for 10 days straight

I doubt he would've been 😂 Surely they only had one heart and one set of screens... maybe they left the bare bones of the structure needed for an outdoor concert and took all the extras away? Who knows, anyway I digress...
  4. Here’s one, during I will follow live from Paris 1987 at one point you clearly see Larry playing a song that looks like something else entirely.

  5. And because they edited out the first two songs you see Edge walking out with a black guitar getting ready to play it then all of a sudden he’s playing his Gibson explorer lol! That one was full of errors. Love that concert still!
  6. The main clip I’m talking about with Larry is at around 1:53 or so into the song
  7. Hahaha that's hilarious. NOTHING to do with IWF indeed!

Also, although unrelated, it has striked me how fast they started the song (at 150 bpms) and how slow it was around the 2 minute mark (138 bpm). I thought Larry was using a metronome by then, but it seems not!

Possibly just for Bad and Streets and such songs... and it only really works for songs that Larry starts if he has a metronome; if there was a metronome for IWF there, for example, edge would have no idea where to come in with the metronome unless Larry clicked him in and kept clicking through the intro I guess... (actually that happened on Zoo Station on ZooTV for the first few legs, didn't it?)... think Larry clicking during the intro for Bad on Unforgettable Fire and Live Aid etc... I've always assumed that that's why Larry played his bit during the intro for Streets and then by the time the while band had IEMs they'd decided they quite liked it and kept it

Yeah but we're talking about the "human metronome" that once insisted and corrected Brian Eno's click track for 6 miliseconds It's surprising to see him deviate so much from the proper tempo - whether that was 138 or 150 bpms. He's so inconsistend in that recording!

Edge is even playing that black guitar as well. That Larry bit is rather funny though.

I forgot Adam did backing vocals during IWF back then, probably into a muted mic though.

Everything's fine until the solo. When Edge ends the "intro" of the solo and starts the descent on the neck, everything fucks up. From 1:35:12 to 1:35:37, not a single shot of Edge is synced to what he's actually playing. Extremly noticeable when you're a guitar player who loves to play The Fly When Bono starts singing again it's fine (because then they can't cheat I guess...)

The ending part is the worst : at 1:37:15, in the audio Bono reaches the screen wall at the precise last beat of the song. In the video though... Larry is still playing the song normally. Then when in the audio, Larry does the final wrap snare drum thing, he's actually still just playing the cymbals in the video. Was it worth it to fake the edit that much just to sync up Bono's timing mistake ?

Btw at 1:35:06, Bono starts walking down the left half of the heart, then at 1:35:12 he's walking down the right half of the heart.

Anyway, rant over such as shame for an amazing performance of this song, that we have no other official release of.

This ones really interesting to me. I’m a guitar player and played in a U2 tribute band for years and will never forget a single note of The Fly solo, I could tell you exactly where he’s supposed to be on the neck.

However, I’ve never once noticed how egregious these editing mistakes are. In fact, two of my favorite moments of the Boston DVD entirely are a brief shot of Edge going absolutely apeshit on the les paul toward the end of the song, and Bono’s timed splat against the screen to end the song. Never noticed Larry either.

So is it necessary? Probably not. But worth it? I’ve gone 20 years enjoying those moments more than most of the rest of the show, so you tell me!

Until they re-released live at red rocks on dvd I didn’t realize how many songs he sang back up vocals on. I think you can hear him pretty good on out of control at one point. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did end up using a muted mic later on. I love hearing Larry sing back up. I feel like he’s got an underrated voice
