1. The good news is the album recordings were done long before the war broke out in Ukraine...so its unlikely it'll be showing up on Songs of Surrender...the album of reworked stuff was ready for last Fall, but was held back when the book was delayed...
  2. I have been shocked at the amount of hate and shit thrown Bono's way since the Ukraine gig.

I am talking Twitter , comment sections of various news press , FB Instagram and in every one them idiots are still bringing up Applegate.

Someone said on here the other that the Apple Incident wont leave a lasting impression or any negativity on any legacy they have (left). Well i am here to tell you it absolutely has and ur completely delirious to think other wise.

You only have to search #U2 on twitter any given day and tens of ppl will be whinging about it or hating on the band in general!

I don't think the apple garbage made a big difference. I've never had anyone bring it up in conversation, and when I bring it up I've been told by friends they listened to it once, and never again. I don't think it's the shit album they said they would quit on, but it's close. It makes SOE seem like some sort of masterpiece. The twitter world is one I don't go to.
I've been to probably over 100 shows by non-U2 artists since SOI came out, and always identify myself as a Prince and U2 "expert." And nobody brings up the apple thing. Had it been an album of JT or AB quality, it probably would've had an overwhelmingly positive vibe, but the album did not gain U2 any fans, and probably did not lose any.
As far as the hate thrown at Bono, there is a certain segment of the population that hates politics in any way, shape or form in music. It seems to be 90% far far far right conservatives (not normal conservatives) who ramble on and on about their hate for Bono, who they see as some communist liberal, when they could be reading some captivating story about how Reagan and Thatcher were secret lovers, or how George W Bush betrayed conservatives by even talking to Bono about debt relief.
Most conservatives and liberals I know who like U2 actually take an active interest in Bono's politics and listen with an open mind, and like what they like, etc. But the people complaining about Bono's politics and the Apple thing have way too much time on their hands. Meanwhile, I'll be writing a thesis about how Bill Clinton and John Major ordered a pizza, and had it delivered to Jesse Helms. Fascinating!
By the way, I thought about trying to choose the 40 songs for Surrender, but just can't find the inspiration. I hope something odd like Your Blue Room, or Seconds gets on there, but I can't imagine 10 of the 40 being unknown songs. Drowning Man would be awesome though!
  4. Dirty Day would be a chapter for sure. It's about the relation between sons and fathers as he told on the Experience + Innocence Tour. And Out of Control is the 1st chapter. He wrote it on his 18th birthday. See u2songs 2022-05-12

Social media is a hornets nest for oppressed negative people who are just looking for a target to take down one of the reasons U2 have lasted so long and been so successful is they haven't been afraid to take risks and annoy the naysayers eg Live aid Bono jumping off the stage he was ridiculed by so many for doing that at the time but it paid off ,Achtung Baby/Zooropa,/Pop ,Zoo TV/Popmart the traditionalists were raging when they went down that experimental route but again it paid off .I noticed aswell a lot of these idiots were posting pictures of Bono with Putin at the G8 summit in 2005 trying to make out they were mates after he and Edge did a gig in Ukraine last week .

I only hope that when Bono returns to my country he will not lend an ear to any other politician here because they are all the same thieves and socialists and that later Bono will tell you "There is a future in Argentina" something like that would make me feel bad.
  7. Anyone knows why the bonus tracks from songs of innocence have disappeared from Spotify and YouTube? Would any of those perhaps get reworked for Songs of Surrender?
  8. they are available from unofficial sources, but seem to have disappeared from U2's official accounts
  9. Songs Of Surrender might be a last play/fun with old songs before they release their last album Songs Of Ascent.

  10. They’re still available on YouTube
  11. The fans already called so many albums their last. Why don't we let the band decide what their last album will be
