1. Anyone else that's been listening to the Surrender audiobook lately starting to prefer Bono singing in lower keys?

Hearing Bono talk so candidly about his relationship with his father and then hearing SYCMIOYO in that lower register made me love it even more. That then led me to revisit "Kite", which I hadn't listened to in quite a while...and comparing the album version to the live version from Boston I much, much preferred Boston. Of course, it's easy to say that you prefer a live version to studio for most U2 songs, but it was more about the lower key itself and not just the live energy that I preferred, too.

Anyway...I'm just noticing that a lot more revisiting some of these songs now. Bono has an incredible voice but it sounds better when he's not "a baritone trying to be a tenor."
  2. I agree completely. Love his 'mature' voice of late.
  3. After seeing the last SOS show in Madrid the other night, all I have to say is:

    1) He is in GREAT vocal shape, he's dominating all the ranges and even improving his last peaks of 2010 and 2015.

    2) HIS BEST FALSETTO IS BAAAAAAACK!!! It only took him 28 years
  4. I wonder what happens when he have to sing 40 or more shows with full band. I mean, in theater he doesnt need to sing in full power and there were a lot less shows than a U2 tour, so it's easier to save his voice and reach the notes

I’m convinced it’s the smaller venues. No need to pelt it out to ‘fill’ a large venue. He could just sing and it suited his vocals. Joe was working wonders on the sound too.

If the band go back on tour I guess he’ll be all high pitch chipmunk again.
  6. I prefer the Zoo TV and Popmart period, the more powerful and better controlled voice !
  7. I prefer from the War era to Zootv, then, the level dropped, until the HTDAAB tour, where Bono recovered his voice. On the 360 tour, he was also very good. I think his highest point was the Lovetown tour.

That's great to hear, where did the falsetto pop up?
  9. There is a vid on youtube of Beautiful Day in Manchester (?). Poor sound and vid, but the falsetto is there! It's just the song, nothing from the book, so I hope it's okay to give a hint here.
  10. Exactly, absolutely out of nowhere and unexpected. I think he did some during OOC or Sunday Bloody Sunday too.
  11. A few lines of COBL also.
