Mixer Notes:
Fairly straight forward mix. This was a single IEM feed mixed with an audience recording. The aud was fairly distant sounding, so having the direct sound of the IEM went a long ways. The IEM feed is the backline crew mix, which is pretty good after some spit and polish. Clicks have been mostly removed, but counts left untouched. Since the source is mono, the change of damaging the original audio is much higher with the count scrubbing. Fair amount of extractions and audio trickery to give the recording a bit more space and balanced. Certainly a bit more mixed and easy listening than having raw feeds panned hard left & right.

As always, encouraging people to get into taping and mixing. Just take the craft seriously and it will reward you many times over. There's no point in complaining about missing recordings or subpar quality if you're not contributing--pushing 1's and 0's around on the internet is no substitute for taping.

IEM recordings are not for everyone. If not they're not your thing, either sonically or ethically, there's excellent alternative recordings out there.

Similarly, I'm mixing primarily for my ears. This is what sounds best to me. This may not sound best to you. That's a fair statement. I'm open to honest criticism (although you should have caught me when I was working on the mix!), but pointless complaining is unappreciated (naturally). Let's play nice. Or maybe lug in recording equipment and make an alternate mix of your own sources.

Please don't convert to mp3, then back to wave, and then trade it around. This stuff is too easy to find on torrents now.

Performance

A strong start with I Will Follow adding a punch that had been missing in earlier concerts. The JT set was the main attraction and didn’t disappoint with the visuals on the screen providing beautiful and striking context. The encore featured 3 AB songs with EBTTRT a nice surprise. The band played with energy and a tried and true formula meeting expectations of casual fans. I would have liked to have seen more Rattle and Hum songs seeing it is that albums 30th anniversary but I can’t complain.

Lots of crowd singing and phone waving. On the ground the crowd was highly engaged as one would expect.

Commento generale

I wasn’t originally going to this concert due to the similarity to the 2017 JT tour and the poor venue but managed to get a general admission ticket. I arrived at about 6pm in the rain and battled the crowd trying to buy food and drink from the limited stores available. The SCG is the worst venue in Sydney due to its location, lack of space, poor acoustics and unsatisfactory organisation.
Noel Gallagher stirred up the crowd in his unique way while playing in the rain. He predicted the rain would stop once U2 came on and he was right. It took too long to clear the stage, dry it and prepare it for the main act. U2 didn’t start til 9pm.
Concert was better than I expected and definitely better than the 360 tour 9/10 years ago which lacked energy in comparison. Playing a seminal album gave the concert meaning.
Getting out of the venue at 11pm was tiresome with long queues that also moved slowly.
