A quite interesting performance on the 1st leg of the North American leg of the Popmart tour with everyone mostly putting in a nice performance although, with a couple of rough or weird moments during songs such as Last Night On Earth being a bit weak at the start and Edge messing up during his guitar solo on Until The End Of The World, plus it was also nice to hear Larry doing something interesting with the drumming on Mofo which, was pretty cool so, despite minor mistakes such as these so, overall an acceptable first leg performance which I enjoyed.
Good sounding Popmart boot with good quality and atmosphere picked up. Recording: "Original recording - J. B.-Sony Tcd D8 + Core Sound Cardioids " - 4 stars
Great crowd that is featured nicely in the recording which truly makes them shine during moments where you expect to hear them such as Edge's Karaoke spot and the Stand By Me snippet of Still Haven't Found.
A decent performance on the first leg of the tour and despite a couple of odd mess-ups during the performance in spots I will say that this performance was a nice one to hear as they are really starting to get into the swing of things by this point on the tour and offer the audience a performance which they seemed to like so, despite not being as good as the stuff you'd hear and see on the European leg of the tour which, is a lot higher in standards than this leg of the tour.

U2start note: Daftly lost the mic & DAT info but we are positive that this recording comes straight from Jonas Blank's original master, so here is the complete lineage: Taper's location : 14th Row Floor in line with Main PA's > Core Sound Cardioids > Sony TCD D8 > DAT Clone > Marantz CDR-620 > EAC > Flac 16 . This is also the same recording that was used to produce the "POPcapital" bootleg, even though that one sounds quite louder and also runs significatively faster than this one. This includes 40 seconds of Pop Muzik which the PopCapital bootlegs doesn't.
DAT CLONE from DAT Master
I got this in trade right after the show
from the taper. I know it was taped from the floor
but lost the Mic & DAT Model type....Sorry.

U2start note: This is probably a remaster of the original recording by Jonas Blank. It's quite louder, clearer at some points, muddier at some points, it might even sound like 2 different recordings... But the exact same claps and audience shouts are there, so definitely the same recording. This one is a little bit sped up whereas the original J.B recording runs at a slightly slower speed. This one also misses 40 seconds of Popmuzik which is present on JB's original.

This is a great CD set. This was pressed in very limited numbers from an original audience DAT of the show. The band sounds great on this day and Bono seems to be in good spirits, even though the screen was completely screwed up from a rain storm the night before. Bono says, "Last time we came to Washington, I broke my shoulder, this time a monsoon nearly took out the whole telly... what's wrong with you people!?" (Of course, the "broken shoulder" incident was on the Joshua Tree Tour, and not the "last time" they were in D.C.) This is a great CD set of a great show. Get this show on any bootleg CD you can find.
This is the original pressing on this label.

what they said
"I put the now-legendary notice up. I think the wording was something like 'Drummer seeks musicians to form band'. I just thought of it as a group of people coming together to have a bit of fun, it was never anything else."
- Larry Mullen jr.
did you know
Although instrumental, the song '4th Of July' was recorded on the 4th of July, it is about how they felt that day. The Edge was playing the guitar, completely unaware that Brian Eno (one of the producers) was recording it.
