Performance

Good show! The band sound comfortable with the new tour. There are a few fumbles throughout but the energy and enthusiasm is there and overall it’s a fun listen.

Sounds like Edge makes a slight fumble at one point in Beautiful Day — it’s just something to make the live recording more unique! Kite sounds great for its first outing. I Will Follow ends abruptly after the “your eyes” break with no final “walk away walk away”s. Bono is soulful during Stuck, and introduces the acoustic segment as trying something new. AIWIY and Streets are powerful and it’s a combination that works well, and the Achtung Baby songs that follow are excellent. Instead of the right lyrics, Bono repeats the first half of the first verse in the second verse of Bullet the Blue Sky, but Edge does some beautiful guitar work during the song all the same. Overall the first encore is quite strong; the second isn’t quite as tight — Bono seems a little lost in One and Walk On.

There’s an unlisted snippet of California Dreaming at the end of Elevation. Bono snippets or ad libs something at the start of UTEOTW. Bono sings “I don’t want to see you smile” in Kite, which could technically count as a snippet of their song Smile (though I don’t think it existed yet ). Bono ad libs a bit before The Fly starts.

Sound

Excellent sound! No complaints at all.

(I’m not sure if the source I marked below is the one I listened to; I’ll check later and update)

Recording: "San Jose 2 Earpice" aka "Adam's Earpiece" - 4.5 stars

Audience

They’re loud and enthusiastic! There is a fair bit of chatter that gets picked up, though. Someone near the taper shouts for Elevation at one point in the set... after it had been played already

Overall

Very good show, well worth a listen. This is a show with a lot of personality and a good crowd. The sound is excellent and the setlist is really good. It’s a nice, compact show — on one hand, these Elevation gigs seem like they need just two or three more songs in the set, but on the other, they make for a nice, relatively concise, tight listen.

Highlights:
- New York
- In a Little While
- The Fly
