Performance

Awesome performance. The band hit every song brilliantly. Larry especially is on fire throughout the recording.

I Will Follow is off the rails; it's easily one of the best versions of this classic song. Bono calls out Reagan and other world leaders at the start of Seconds. Out of Control makes its way back into the set after a long absence and is a very powerful version. The Electric Co. is another wild one, with some unusual guitar effects and a great snippet. A Sort of Homecoming is very upbeat, and is followed by Bad which begins the real heart of the show. Bad is a long version with lots of snippets. October has a rare, special piano introduction. New Year's Day is really driven by the wild crowd and Bono sings the 'maybe the time is right' bit. Pride is dedicated to the U2 road crew. Bono is funny during Party Girl, which features the extended lyrics. Gloria and "40" both are really really good performances as well.

Sound

Four stars, sometimes a little bit around 3.5, sometimes a bit around 4.5 really. Overall easily listenable but sometimes the pitch (especially of the crowd) seems a little off. Very good overall though. Don't panic when ASOH cuts out halfway through, it's just a tape flip.
Recording: "1GEN - Yamaha KX-650 3" - 4 stars

Audience

The audience are very good and know all the songs. They at the very best in New Year's Day, simply outstanding.

Overall

This has got to be one of U2's best 1980s concerts. The crowd is outstanding. While the setlist may not have any surprises apart from the triumphant return of Out of Control it makes up for this with absolutely rock-solid performances. Just about every song in the set has a performance for the books right here. Download this one right now.
