Performance

Hmmmm. This one didn't tickle me like I thought it would. All the ingredients were there, early 92, nervousness, building swagger and still experimenting but it just never elevated to that next level that I have come to expect from 1992 shows.

It opens well with I could Have Lost You but doesn't really kick on again until Mysterious Ways. The Fly is a bit all over the place, there's no playing with the TV during EBTTRT. One is absolutely magic in these opening months. They still haven't worked out how to finish it yet and the Hear Us Coming snippet is still being dabbled with.

Until the end of the Word is brilliant with particular focus on the final minute where the outro is different to usual and the segue into Wild Horses is just nailed so damn perfectly. We get a rare bit of chat from Adam doing the intro to Trying To Throw which I always think is hugely under-rated. Edge does some lovely work in this song. I particularly liked an audience member saying 'that's 9 new songs?' during Tryin' To Throw.

The crowd didn't eat up Angel of Harlem like most others did at the time but the guitars were quite quiet. RTSS-Streets remains forever gold, especially so in these early shows where they are clearly still playing around with the timing and synths. This show gets the longer intro. I've never bigged up ZooTV Desire and that remains the case, Ultraviolet misses 'all fucked up'. Boo. WOWY gorgeous and LIB is universally accepted for being the great closer it was.

This show just missed a standout moment. Atlanta had a few, Vancouver, Tacoma, New York and Boston all had their moments. This show felt like one of the shows were they were still finding their groove while some of those other shows felt like they were already on top of the world (despite some of those shows being earlier than this one).

Sound

Dinky Trabant. A fairly excellent recording. Bono is prominent, maybe not enough Adam if being super critical. Free from clappers and screamers. Quite warm and full sound. My type of recording. Recommended.
Recording: "Bono Is A Dinky Trabant" - 3.5 stars

Audience

They were OK. They started well and gave One a rousing roar but I very much felt like this was a crowd waiting for the familiarity of a few old U2 songs

Overall

3.5 show overall but 3/5 when rated alongside some of the shows in and around it.
