1. And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was lyin' still
Said I... gotta do somethin' about we we're goin'...
    Step on a steam train
Step outta the drivin' rain maybe
Run from the darkness in the night
Singing ha ha la la la de day
Ha ha la la la de day
    Ha la la de day

    Sweet the sin
But bitter the taste in my mouth
    I see seven towers
But I only see one way out
    You gotta cry without weeping
    Talk without speaking
    Scream without raising your voice
Singing ha ha la la la de day
Ha ha la la la de day
    Ha la la de day

    Ooooohhh......

    She runs through the streets
    With her eyes painted red
Under a black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway she brings me
White gold and pearls stolen from the sea
She is raging, she is raging
And a strom blows up in her eyes
She will suffer the needle chill
    She's running to stand....
    ....still.

One of their best songs ever. Incredibly beautiful, carried by Larry's terrific drumming. Some very poignant harmonica work.

ZooTV was the best version by miles *drools* Edge's guitar was incredible... and the finish with Bono and the needle... gets me every time....

    Thank you U2....
  2. Totaly agree with that....RTST Sydney is one best live performances ever...at least from my point of view!!!
  3. Agreed, that performance is so intense, everything is great about that performance, everything
  4. Agree about that performance. The end of this performance is simply stunning! But I also love the piano versions of this song. Especially from the LoveTown tour, with Dirty Old Town. It's a hard choice for me.
  5. It's such a great song..it doesn't matter how they play it, it's rocks in a gentle way!
  6. i also love the sydney version. it's great! goosepimples everytime.
  7. Completely agreed ! The performance of Bono in Sydney was the best one of RTST i think, though the versions at Vertigo-tour were also nice, different but nice
  8. In all it's forms , i think it's a greeeeeeeat song
  9. One of their best, without a doubt
  10. there will be a reason if RTSS is my favourite U2 song
  11. I'm sorry for resurrecting an old topic like this one, but it was the only one that really suited a random post like mine.

I'm having a strong pre-1990 phase in the last days, and this evening has been the turn for Running To Stand Still. I know and love tons and tons of performances, from early 1987 to the last ones in 2005... But (aside the Zoo TV versions, with the electric arrangement) two of them have always had a special place in my heart. They were almost consecutive, and each one of them is special in its own way.
I'm talking of 1989-12-26th and 30th, at the Point Depot, Dublin. The 26th one has got one of the most beautiful guitar parts I have ever heard from Bono, and an amazing first vere sung entirely and spontaneously by the audience; the 30th one has got a stronger overall performance of the song and a loooooooooovely Dirty Old Town snippet, also sung by the audience.

I've listened to both versions several times today, and eventually have decided to make a live mix of both, merging them and getting the best parts of each one (intro and 1st verse from 26th, rest of the song from 30th); the transition is almost non-noticeable (I think), but I didn't put much effort on it anyway, just 5 minutes to merge the tracks and add fades etc.
So, here it is, my live mix of Running To Stand Still. I hope you like it
