Decided it's high time I got myself some basic music production programme to get to grips with the finer points of making my own stuff properly - am happy enough doing straight records of myself playing using my phone mic but a) not great quality, b) bit limited in what I can actually do re. instrumentation! Anyone recommend a good starter programme (preferably free as don't want to blow a load of money on something straight away) for a Windows laptop?
Try Audacity. http://www.audacityteam.org/
It's a decent DAW that acts as a good place to start if you're learning the process. I don't know much about its functionality. I WILL say that as you move forward you will want to look into other programs. As much as this makes me sound like a mac-head I swear by my Apple stuff - no problems ever. I use Logic X going through a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2. My earlier work was just a mic plugged into my sound card but, trust me, when you start getting to the point that you want something a little more pro, you'll want an audio interface.
Since I don't know how the notifications work here I'll send you a PM if possible so you have these details but thought I'd leave this here in case anyone else needs it.
