don't hear Geldof and his fellow activists talking about what's going on in the middle east, the rise of antisemitism in Europe (Labour for instance), the supression of women, the intolerance towards gay people, the upcoming violence against women in Europe etc etc..
Whats going on in Myingmar is terrible but I miss the criticism on other issues.same for Bono.
slightly off topic I guess..

I can’t say I follow what Bob Geldof does but I think Bono is in a position where he has to pick and chose his battles wisely. He can’t take on every issue, but you could say he’s indirectly saved lives with some of his campaigning, more than any of us could ever dream of because of his position of fame. He didn’t have to do that and it’s an incredible thing. I know where you’re coming from but ultimately there’s only so much the guy could do and I think he should be very proud of what he has achieved. Anyway my thoughts relating to this topic from a music point of view is I hope the song isn’t permanently dropped now because the band might worry about how it’s perceived, I’m glad however they sent out the statement they did, silence wouldn’t have been good enough on this occasion when they directly supported Aung San Suu Kyi, something they can’t be criticised for doing at the time.

you are right. Bono is a good person and he means well. goodhearted. he has achieved a lot and I praise him for that. for me it's about the music but sometimes I think "ouch..Bono, don't go there, or could backlash in the future".
and I understand you when you are saying "only so much the guy can do". true, but..I do miss sometimes the issues I wrote in my post. well, I love u2, love their music and warm hearts. sometimes I get a bit frustrated over the political climate etc. not the place here maybe to talk about that stuff, some forums are shutdown for that reason (@u2). pretty good times to be a u2 fan though
