1. The Vertigo Tour is still one of my favorite U2 Tours, for U2 standards there where a lot of setlists changes and Amsterdam 13/ 7 and 16/7 are for me my best U2 live experiences.

Those early shows with the Boy segment, those summer stadium nights, the fall in the USA and those incredible South American audiences.
People go on about Zoo and Popmart and underrate Vertigo.

    Agreed.
  3. European leg of Vertigo was pretty dull. One city stands had the same setlist, without the boy segment from 1st leg, without those rarities from 3rd leg... Worst Streets ever (whole One/Streets/Pride sequence was pretty meh), worst Bullet ever. And considering it was promoting their worst (IMO) album...
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the shows, but definitely don't think it stands the test of time - at least not European shows.
  4. European shows were excellent in my mind. The Twickenham broadcast is really good, the Croke Park setlists were a nice surprise, and the Vienna show is still my favourite U2 gig (and the first) I'd attended. I listened to the show again and it was particularly enjoyable because Bono shortened the speeches, as they started the show late due to them flying to Vienna that day from London after their Live 8 performance.

The ZooTV encore really came together, performances of The Electric Co. were amazing, the occasional performance of Wild Horses was really good (I prefer it to the E&I renditions, mainly because it includes Edge's guitar solo) and I personally loved the entire Coexist section, especially with Running to Stand Still. Edge put some extra punch into the Bullet solos at that point (check the Amsterdam I version where he actually combines the album solo with the ZooTV/Elevation-style ones).

I won't defend the Pride/Streets/One section, but that goes for the whole tour. Ending the show with a second Vertigo was silly, but at least it was a slightly longer setlist than usual at that point (until they decided to cut All I Want is You near the end of the leg, which was another questionable decision).

The Copenhagen and Gothenburg bootlegs are probably the most representative ones of that leg's quality, along with Twickenham. It's a shame that the Croke Park shows don't have better sound quality, but on the other hand... at least we have those recordings!

    Indeed

Completely disagree with everything you said the European shows were fantastic and the band were on top form certainly the 4 shows I saw ,and as for worst album you are taking the piss it was the last album U2 had hit singles it cleaned up at the Grammy and sold over 10 million copies and the crowds had a familiarity with the new songs something they haven't been able to do since.
  7. I think the lack of rotation in Europe sometimes goes against it. I know that’s not what’s important for everyone but in the other legs there seemed to be far more variation going on. I was only 13 when i attended the tour and my memory of the show isn’t too clear. Having listened to bootlegs and watching the Chicago and milan dvd‘S I definitely prefer what they did in North America with an cat Dubh/into the heart and original of the species featuring a little more even though it was on both DVD’s. I know that the Chicago dvd was taken from 2 shows but I think there was setlists that were near enough the same as the dvd and that would be my preferred Setlist. City of blinding lights as opener was a massive part of what I love about the show and opening with vertigo in Europe just isn’t the same. Still a very good tour and very good album all round but I prefer what they’ve been doing in recent years and preferred the elevation tour again more from the DVD’s and bootlegs as opposed to my own experience, as I was really young when I seen that tour.
  8. Yep, i still love the Euroshows 😃 I enjoyed them way more than Elevation. Didn't like the 2nd Vertigo, or better: 1st Vertigo as that was played in daylight.

I think first leg of 360 was better. And IE was even better than that. Vertigo still in my top 5 of tours, with ZooTV and Popmart completing it.
  9. I wonder what Gareth is doing right now...
  10. Just in relation to a post I made in the subscription thread. I’d love it if these following songs that were played in the vertigo tour got their first release from that tour

Until the end of the world
    Stuck in a moment
    The first time
    Bad
    The ocean
    Fast Cars
Who’s Gonna ride your wild horses
    Angel of Harlem
    Party girl
Walk on (sort of released before but with non live elements added)
    Out of control
    Crumbs from your table
    Desire
    MLK
    One Tree Hill
    Window in the skies
    Discotheque
    In a little while
    Mothers of the disappeared

I believe that covers every original U2 song that was played in full on the tour that hasn’t been released yet so no covers or half versions like love is blindness.
  11. I'm getting into this tour a lot recently. I'm planning to listen to the first 3 shows of the 1st leg soon as the setlists were quite wild.

You really can pick out 3 or 4 shows all with quite different setlists that give you a good bit of variety. I feel like I’ve not given it the attention it deserves either in the past.
