1. I love me some 24bit 44.1khz files.

Especially 10+ feeds of the same show. Often time the same feed but recorded by different people!

And all to get uploaded to Youtube in 128 kbps by adrien73!
  3. I've debated many times whether I should build a collection like Serigo has. On one hand I think it is utterly pointless because I can come on here and grab whatever I want whenever I want. Then again, I have no idea what the future holds. There's nothing stopping Remy from going rogue one day and closing this site without notice. Meaning I lose access to everything I had. The U2 community could die within the next 20 years. I could lose contact with all the (U2) people I talk to now and all the bootlegs slowly get lost.

Is there an archive somewhere in case this website does go down one day? Maybe it is worth doing..
  4. I just like having a collection, I like collecting stuff so I want to have it as complete as possible, and I want to listen to a show whenever I want to.

And when the apocalypse happens, I can at least listen to U2 bootlegs even when there is no internet

Almost everything is available elsewhere (there are very few bootlegs that are only available on U2start because tapers wanted it that way), and there's plenty of sites that host many bootlegs in different mirrors... But as far as I know no other site offers literally every concert in a comprehensive collection and for direct download (so this excludes torrent sites where you depend from seeders to get a particular torrent). Then there's a good bunch of people who have everything backed up in external drives like myself, and also in different virtual clouds. And then there's all these Youtube accounts where users put together audio-only videos with most of our bootlegs. So, while it's extremely unlikely that everything disappears from this or other sites, none of it will ever be lost.

The most likely fatality-scenario -that will happen sometime for sure- is that Mega gets shut down for whatever reason and then a total of 803 shows would be unavailable (but still stored in our HDDs, SSDs, clouds, etc) since they only have Mega links. If it's Mediafire shutting down, 251 shows would become unavailable. But that would/will be relatively easy and quick to work out.

My recommendation would be downloading everything (it takes less time than one would expect, just a couple of weeks putting one hour or two a day) and store it in an external HDD just in case. You wouldn't even need to extract the RAR files or rename stuff, which is the most time consuming part of having a collection like this. Just keep the RAR files as-is and you're good to go.
  6. If I want to download the files in FLAC if possible otherwise MP3, and have all the multicams/pro shot videos on my drive, would I need a 1TB HDD or 2TB?
  7. Probably 2TB just to be safe. Price difference isn't that much when it comes to HDDs anyway.

What do you exactly mean by all the multicams/proshots? There's not a comprehensive list of fan-made multicams, it's not that easy. Especially for 360 and IE tours there's A LOT of multicams out there, some of them not even on U2torrents and are uploaded directly to Youtube. And also, although audio has remained the same in terms of format/storage ratio (MP3/FLAC for the most part), video has evolved quite a bit. Most if not all of the pre-2006 shows will be available as DVDs (~4,7 GB per show) or DVD-rips (~400-700 MB per show), but more modern ones are available as blurays, HDrip, MKV, 4K... So that's 2 factors right there that make this practically unapproachable.

Taking videos out, you'd need a 2TB for the whole collection in FLAC. It all would take up around 1100-1300 GB (only counting the best available source for each concert, if you take multiple sources we'd be around the 1800-2300 GB figure I think).
  9. I was looking at this. A 5TB external HDD. For my collection this would store:

All audio sources for each show (including "Various dates") either in FLAC or MP3.
All photos that are currently on the show pages for each show (with a recording).
All the officially released pro shot films (including Virtual Road).
    Other pro shot films.
Video bootlegs (the 500 that are in the U2Start collection and others that are floating about on YouTube).
    U2.com subscriber gifts downloads.
Soundchecks (if I can find a comprehensive list or place where all the soundchecks are available to download).
    U2 X Radio content.

If there's space I would add some other bootlegs from different artists such as LG, NGHFB and OASIS.
  10. Oh wow, the photos as well? That would be the most comprehensive multimedia collection ever.

Regarding soundchecks... well, watch this space.

  11. I have been since you originally mentioned it God knows when. This was just an indirect nudge to see what the progress was on it
  12. That's a goal of mine by probably the end of next year - getting all the shows onto my own hard drive and categorizing.

Beyond any classic means of organization, I also have my own catalog tool I use while listening to shows, or trying to find one to listen to.

Each link goes straight to the U2Start show page, and this way I can keep track of killer highlights from specifics shows. Once I get through entire legs, I intend to make compilations to keep on my phone for the car and stuff.
