Give it a rest if it was a full on U2 project then yeah but it's not.

Garrix has covered some of this across a number of interviews.

Garrix put together a demo of the song. Realizing that the guitar he had added sounded like U2 he told his manager he would like to get Bono on the track. Bono said yes.

Garrix went to Eze where he was set to record with Bono. Edge popped into those sessions, and offered up some ideas for the music, and recorded the main guitar riff which was later incorporated into the song.

"With the track in the making for three years, Garrix had felt from the early stages of the creative process that Bono’s vocals would make the perfect fit for ‘We Are the People’. His vision came to life when both Bono and his U2 bandmate The Edge agreed to feature on the song. The collaboration evolved further with Bono writing the lyrics and creating melodies and The Edge adding the leading guitar riffs, resulting in a perfect blend of the signature sounds of all artists." - Sony Music Press release

Oh I didn't see any of these remarks, I only had the small discussion we had on Twitter a few days ago and that was it. Well, it's nice to see Edge contributed more than I thought. I wish the track was more rocking and/or full of guitar in general but it's nice as it is and I'm rather sure Bono and Edge like it as well. I wonder if we'll see them "perform" (aka mimic) the song at the opening ceremony or something, or if they'll leave it as it is now and move on.

I'm told that Bono and The Edge will likely pre-record their bits for the opening ceremony, and they won't be there in person.
  8. I really like the harmonies on the pre-chorus for this mix. Lovely. Overall vibe kinda reminds me of Bono and Edge's more subdued version of Love is Bigger that they performed on Ellen a while back...

It's been fun finding different things to appreciate about each of these new mixes the more the song has grown on me.

    Yup, surely an Ellen feel.
