1. Well....I've always thought/said that Pop would have been a magical eight-song album without those four tunes. Is every song on SOI better than them??? Hmmmm....I dunno. Maybe.

  2. I do like Miami 😃 Besides that: Mofo, Gone, Please and STATS are better on their own than the whole SOI combined

  3. :'(
Wake up dead man is better than SOI and SOE combined
  4. SOI is their best album this century… followed by Leave, SOE, Bomb and No Line.

I love SOE but does sound like ‘the’ Bono solo album.
  5. Maybe if it was stripped down like the Elevation show versions
  6. I appreciate All That, No Line, SOI (I love this album) and SOE, but for me Wake Up Dead Man (studio version) is the last masterpiece of U2. This is a perfect song.

Wake Up Dead Man is really great and masterpiece, but they had at least two after too: Mercy (the original 2004 version) and Little Things. But agree with you on the rest
  8. I could probably name about 2 albums worth of masterpieces after wake up dead man and wake up dead man itself is a very good song but not a masterpiece for me. SOI on its own isn’t far away from being the 3rd masterpiece as a whole. I’d maybe argue it is a masterpiece.

It would be if there was something better than Miracle and California (Mercy or Boy Falls From The Sky). And if they would put Glastonbury instead of Volcano (which is not a bad song at all but Glastonbury was amazing - sad that they ruined it by American Soul).
But still really like that album (skipping just California).

California is the joint best song on the album. And I’ve grown to like volcano more than Glastonbury, both good songs imo. I like the miracle but I do think it’s a bit of a weak opener both on the album and live, weak as in only good, invisible would have worked fine that’s a much stronger song or even just kick the album off with every breaking wave, but I don’t think there’s a song on SOI that is worse than good and most of it is very good or great even. AB and JT are the only other u2 albums I can say that about so that probably does put it in the masterpiece category for me. Crystal ballroom and lucifers hands kept the album strong even into the bonus stuff. Imo anyway.
  11. I too think SOI is their best (ie, most consistent) post-90s album with only “The Miracle” seeming like they are trying a bit too hard. The rest is quite solid. I really should give it a listen for the first time in a while.
