1. So it's 40 tracks then? I hope they did The Unforgettable Fire
  2. Cause that's what the world needs ... another version of Beautiful Day for all the 'dad rock' and 'MOR' groupies !

I think the rearranged album with old songs won't go down well with U2 fans. They'll probably put some bonus tracks on it telling us to buy it because we haven't heard it. That's my opinion on that. Before talking about a new album, the part from 2017 with the JT tour film should be warmed up again.

    Agreed!
  4. You know, instead of posting all this hate on it (it’s not gonna stop it from being released) here’s an easy solution, DON’T BUY OR LISTEN TO IT. There. Easy to do.

I think I am officially renouncing my U2 mega Fandom. I can now empathize with how Matt McGee felt when he shuttered atu2 a few years ago. I'll see U2 play live if they are near me but my days of spending my hard earned cash to travel around North America are over. This is a disgusting cash grab for the record label and a banal attempt to be relevant today. I am so disappointed and disgusted. The future doesn't need a big kiss from this band anymore...their future has dried up
    ..at least for me.

Hey, let's be honest... It could be far worse... Imagenie if they decided to re-record the wole pop album... Cheesy rock versions of the tracks....
  6. Fair point...my disappointment stems from my opinion that our world is one big dumpster fire right now on many levels; especially in North America. I am selfishly looking forward to new U2 music to make everything a little better or perhaps seem not as bad....just like they have always done for us in the past. I hope Songs of Surrrender is a giant stepping stone to fresh new rock music next year instead of an unnecessary detour for a cash grab....
  7. Final thought....Achtung Baby Live fan club gift would be nice right about now....
  8. I'm very much torn about this SOS thing too but I think we do need to give them a chance. Let them put it out. Let's see what it really is, what the songs are, what they did with them, and then decide if we like it. I made myself a career spanning playlist of alternate versions of songs a while back and it's a very enjoyable thing to listen to, and very long too (63 songs). If SOS is really 40 songs, even if there are duds in there, it's statistically guaranteed that there will be at least a handful of gems in there. I'll take that. Plus AB live is coming from the archives, plus a new album and likely tour in 2023. There's something in there for everyone, I'm going to give them a chance and focus on the bits that I like.

isnt there a minimum chance Songs of Surrender is Songs of Ascent
  10. It’s not. Songs of Ascent is a different project that the band are still suggesting they will complete one day. The project coming out this Fall has nothing to do with that release.

That’s what I’m doing as well. I’m excited we get to hear some new takes. It’s fresh recordings. More exciting to me than a compilation of old remixes which is what Madonna is doing this year, or even another greatest hits like U218 Singles or the Best Ofs. (Which the label probably would have been more interested in…easier to sell the hits everyone knows than a bunch of experimental takes on the originals.)

40 songs. There’s sure to be a few stinkers and a few gems. I’ll take a listen. They worked on this while they were separated and couldn’t get into a studio together and then finished it off when they could get back together. That’s a different way of working which interests me as well. And I think it’s kind of cool they are supporting Bono and his autobiography in this way, putting together an album of songs to go with it.

If a new album was another five years off I’m not sure if I’d be happy with this one, but sounds like they will be releasing that one early next year. Maybe going back and diving into these old songs will get their heads in a different place…one that reminds them of some of the things we all love about the older stuff.
