Bruce and the guys in u2 are at retirement age nearly, why should they be the ones pushing for change when they’ve already given so much to the industry and have been screwed out of money for years by these scalpers. No if I was in my 60’s and it was a choice between a long difficult campaign (which it would be, it is hard) to make it difficult or impossible for scalpers or I could just charge what people are willing to pay until something is done then I’d pick the 2nd option and let other people fight that fight. I’m sure Bono would rather put his time and effort into much more important and bigger issues than ‘fair’ ticket pricing. In terms of ideas it’s very simple, a ticket with your picture on it, easy to upload photo’s these days, in fact it could be preloaded onto whatever ticketing site you were buying from and then printed onto ticket. Quick and easy check when showing your ticket at the venue. If reselling as you say it has to be for the original price. These potential solutions are easy enough it’s forcing them through that’s the problem, 60+ year old men aren’t the guys to be doing the forcing.
Bono is 62. That is not retirement age.

Bruce might be winding down touring years though.
  2. Why shouldn't the 60+ men fight the fight for ticket prices?? They're taking advantage of those prices now, and it's not like they're suffering now in spite of what scalpers have done.

Because when you get to that age life shouldn’t be about having to fight the fight when it comes to issues like this. Bono and the rest of the band and any other artist at that age for that matter should be able to enjoy their lives and not have to get caught up in what is a first world problem. It’s almost retirement age and I’m not wanting or expecting 60+ year old people to be wasting their time trying to get me and other fans a cheaper ticket. There are plenty other artists out there who have the time and energy to put into trying to bring about change in the matter.

Because I don’t think it’s a that big problem that justify dynamic pricing.

The whole problem with scalpers is that the promotor and the band agree to a ticketprice. But because there is more demand than tickets people are trying to get rich out of shortage.

So If you are willing to let your fans pay the fair price, you need to get rid of scalpers. If you don’t want to make scalpers rich you should cut them out by creating a system which deals with shortages and high demands.

But with doing so, you lose your point. Because all the acts say getting rid of scalpers is to protect the fans.

With dynamic pricing they became the very thing they swore to destroy.

Get your eyes on the price and just make reselling more difficult. Like Sergio is pointing out, link it to ID/Passport/Bank Card with pictures or something like that.

Just don’t become a monster in order to defeat a monster…

Your quote at the end was said in relation to suicide bombers and terrorists, you’re now relating it to ticketing issues…..

Anyway of course there is a solution we’ve agreed and came up with ideas but you don’t honestly think the band can just walk in and say that’s how we want it done and that’s it do you? They need everyone to get on board and thats where it becomes difficult. It will need to become law before some of these people will budge.

I do so disagree. If you want to enjoy your life just call it a day and enjoy the money on your bankaccount. If you want to continue in showbusiness you need to play in every aspect of the game. That includes fan experience, negotiate with your promotor and stuff like that.

It is also moral objectionable in my opinion to be part of a business only for yourself. Never forget that you do what you do for other people.

Yeah I use it for ticket issues. The message stays the same, don’t do evil to fight evil.

The context of the phrase is not interesting if you get the message.

Evil , it’s a highly priced ticket for god sake, an insanely low threshold for evil.
  8. I waiver on this issue, but I think it is a good idea Backstreets closed up shop.

Well thankfully in 2023 the band have the choice to still carry on being a band and leaving matters like ticket sales to other people. I’d be doing the exact same thing in my 60’s.

The quote you referenced is actually from the 1800s. Bono paraphrased it. But they've got to be able to help bring about a solution, including the old guys who are still making money even though they could have retired decades ago
