U2:UV Achtung Baby at the Sphere
Legs (1): 2023-2024
Shows: 40
Tickets:
  1. I think the shows will probably sell out, but having a presumably months-long delay between the Super Bowl ad and the on-sale doesn't help MSG or the band. It will be interesting to see the range of ticket prices for this venue
  2. The shows will “sell out” no matter what. But that doesn’t mean almost every seat will have an actual occupant for a long time. Scalpers will absolutely gouge on these shows, just look at Taylor Swift. The only solution would have been to remove Ticketmaster but obviously the band can’t do that because- complicated contracts. By show night, I think at least 90% will be full each night.
  3. And the money aspect of course. If you’re a musician offered to be paid millions every night in the newest venue isn’t the world, why wouldn’t you do it? I don’t think anyone would have as much as an issue with this whole thing if Larry was there. We’ve already gotten over the whole acceptance of revisiting the past on Joshua Tree. And it was enjoyable. It just sucks that Larry won’t be there.

One thing I’m having trouble coming to terms with is Larry’s approval of Bram. Bono and Edge met Bram through Martin Garrix. Bono and Edge only worked with Martin on a non U2 track. Larry was not present. When did Larry meet Bram and verify he is suitable for the job? It seems this was moreso a Bono and Edge decision that Adam and Larry went along with than band decision.
  4. The Edge says U2 chose €2bn Sphere venue in Las Vegas for their residency due to its state-of-the-art features

i would rather the band played a standard show (old analogue ZOOTV tellies and old painted trabants will do for me) and just let the music do the talking

cheaper gigs played for all fans?

or 'state of the art' residencies and for the richest fans only?

    let... me... see....

I was thinking they might just do everything on the sphere. Digital dangling trabants overhead. If U2 was to do this cheap, it wouldn’t happen.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Larry has never and never will meet Bram,

I'm still torn on this whole Vegas thing.

On the one had, I think it's a very "U2" thing to do to want to be on the forefront of live show innovation - as Edge mentions in that Independent article - and think the show will probably be incredible.

But it's also a very U2 thing to always emphasize the importance of their fans in making a live show happen, so I'm with you that Edge's comments about "missing their fans" being the reason they just HAD to play Las Vegas this fall (as in the press release) ringing kind of hollow, especially taking into account the expense involved and doing it without Larry.
  8. Dans Larry je ne peux pas comprendre
  9. This is from a new AP interview with the edge, the last lines in the article are :

Would U2 continue if one of the original quartet decides it’s time to hang it up?

“I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that we could go forward with different members,” The Edge said. “But also, equally, I could imagine us deciding not to. It would be a big challenge. But I think at the time we would know what felt right.”

So its time to cut the bullshit, they are trying to softly walk us thru Larry quitting !

Larry is gone ! Get used to it.
