Performance

They sound a bit tired but still put in the effort, things takes some momentum to warm up due to a rainy evening. The fly channel hops to an opera singer who belts out a lovely note as the band launch into EBTTRT. One is dedicated to the people of Sarajevo.

UTEOTW and New Year's Day warm up the crowd again, Numb is next with EBN's video loops. Tonight, a new debut from Zooropa is the title track played in a shorter version. Keyboard sequencing swells as the band come in; the arrangement is less layered than the album and Bono comes in a bit too early. It sounds under-rehearsed but still great to have this surprise in the set. After the song as the band go to the B-Stage, Bono comments on how it's easy to make a record but another thing to get the songs ready to play live.

The acoustic set starts with Stay making this a hat-trick performance of Zooropa material, Happy Birthday is sung for Edge before Angel Of Harlem with Bono referencing Princess Diana in the song. A cover of 'Rain' gets an outing due to the weather of course, Edge gives a brief performance of Lost Highway before giving up and laughing having forgotten the song. No worries though as the band move on with When Love Comes To Town. Satellite Of Love is a foreshadow for the next moment of the show when ZOO TV hooks up to speak live with Sarajevo. A woman who's son is at the show speaks with a translator to explain the situation. The band tentatively pull back into the show with Bad after this moment of sombre reality. Bono sings a Sunday Bloody Sunday reference of 'no more' repeatedly during the song's climax.

The Sarajevo situation fuels the political charge of BTBS, "Zoo-nited Nations!" RTST in it's ZOO TV arrangement is stirring as always, Bono sings a snippet of 'The End' over synths and sound effect of helicopters as the stage goes into darkness and the screens turn red. Adam makes a couple of blunders at the start of WTSHNN, Bono dedicates the song to Ali, as well as waving to his former Joshua Tree era self on the screen - "I remember you!" Pride is a standard performance but goes down well.

The crowd are then entertained by the ZOO TV confessionals; short, punchy clips of people trying to entertain and shock, decades before TikTok or social media. Desire brings out Macphisto from his lair for the encore. "Over the counter with a shotgun, in Blackhill, everyone got one" in reference to a troubled area of Glasgow. Macphisto's speech asks the audience if they like his shoes, blaming and thanking the audience for making him famous as well as a mention of Princess Diana being into rock and John Major who is the subject of tonight's telephone call.

He gets through to someone who offers to take a message. "I'm calling from the top of the country, it's called Scotland... he may have heard of it". Macphisto hams and croons his way through Ultra Violet. Love Is Blindness comes next, as the character falls away and Bono returns. Can't Help Falling In Love brings the show to a close as the original version plays over the PA.

Sound

A pretty clear recording and one you can easily enjoy.
Recording: Audience microphone - 4 stars

Audience

For a crowd in a stadium in the rain, they still make a great noise.

Overall

Despite showing signs of tiredness and struggling with the elements, it's still a stellar show with the new material and a generous effort from the band.
