Performance notes: First performance of Party Girl in eight years and three days. Last performance of Even Better Than The Real Thing until 30 March 2011. When Bono is snippeting Van Morrison's Gloria at the end of Desire, he inserts some other lyrics that one may initially assume to be U2's Gloria, due to some similarities: "Oh Lord, open my lips/Anything I can, I will do for you/And my mouth shall shout up your praise". However, although the last line does not resemble any in Gloria, the lines do bear a strong similarity to Psalm 51 from the Bible. As the connection to Psalm 51 appears stronger, the snippet is credited to it rather than Gloria.

Performance

Absolutely electrifying concert to end off the run of shows in Boston for now! The entire band sounds crisp and Bono gives one of his best vocal performances from the entire leg. Edge makes Bono laugh after 'Even Better Than the Real Thing' due to playing some really nasty bum chords towards the end but makes up for it with some belting guitar work during 'Mysterious Ways'. As the show goes on, it gets better and better, featuring some of the best versions of 'Stuck in a Moment' and 'Kite' known to man with Bono singing his heart and soul out. The same goes for 'Gone' which features absolutely breathtaking vocals and Edge going off like he rarely does during the outro! I could keep repeating myself because Bono just keeps giving out some of the best vocals of his entire life for almost every single song. Unfortunately, there is one more downside, that being 'Out of Control': Edge COMPLETELY fumbles this song and barely gets one right now without flubbing the next one.

Another highlight follows an exceptional acoustic version of 'Desire' and it is the tour debut of 'Party Girl', clearly not rehearsed but so much fun like it always is! The acoustic 'Stay' coming afterwards is always such a delight, especially when Bono sings it this well! 'Bad' is an impeccable rendition with everything falling into place and the same goes for 'Where the Streets Have No Name', which happens to have become one of my favourite versions ever. The main set is closed off with a terrific performance of 'Beautiful Day' with Bono even handing over a few lines to this crazy Boston crowd! The first encore continues this streak of awesome performance by adding two great 'Joshua Tree' tracks on top of everything else, especially 'Bullet the Blue Sky' which features a fantastic guitar solo and some great angry rapping by Bono in the end. The second encore is just as bloody lovely.

Sound

The sound quality is pretty much perfect and captures the band as well as the fantastic audience equally.
Recording: "AT 803 - DAT" - 4 stars
