Performance

"Alright my luvs..." [Bono doing his finest Londoner accent during the show] here's my review...

Despite Bono apparently having a virus during these two shows he and the rest of the band seemed on really good form.

A real nice treat to hear so many Achtung Baby / Zooropa era songs once again, which seems to me like this might be the bands way of saying that they probably won't be doing any kind of anniversary tour in the next few years for this era, but who knows.

'Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses' sounded especially good and much more polished than when they've bought it back and played it randomly down the years, genuinely was welling up with emotion as they performed that up above in the barracage where we could see them from our vantage point by the e-stage.

And I really enjoyed 'Acrobat', 'Zoo Station' and 'The Fly' especially and really good to hear an electric version of 'Stay (Faraway, So Close!)' once again. 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)' and 'New Year's Day' seemed totally revitalised.

The opening songs were great, though sad to have missed out on 'Love Is All We Have Left'.

When they came down and played on the e-stage it was of course brilliant, you can actually feel and not just hear Larry play up close. I was very impressed with the production and theatrics of it all, though so much of it is so heavily choreographed and they're tied into the tech / screen so much that it doesn't provide too much wiggle room for spontaneity, something I hope U2 will have fun with once again if they tour in years to come, which we can only hope.

I really enjoyed most of the new songs 'The Lights Of Home; and Get Out Of Your Own Way' and the closing two songs being particular favourites.

Sound

As ever, another excellent ambient aud. mic. recording by Chatts99 that captures the night very well. Very little in terms of intrusive or obnoxious audience noise, which is personally how I like my live recordings, it's all very ambient.
Recording: "CA 11 - ZOOM H2n " - 3.5 stars

Audience

Everyone around me and everywhere else I could see were enjoying the show in their own way, whether singing (quietly or loudly) (in tune or not!) (correct lyrics or not), jumping/dancing or just quietly appreciating the band and the music in their own way, and there's nothing wrong with any of those. Me I probably did a lot of all of that. I don't think I've ever seen anything other than that at any of the U2 shows I've ever attended to be honest.

Overall

This was my 34th U2 show, and only one on this tour sadly, and I went with the mindset that it might be the last one ever (which I've been doing for a few years - you never know) so was sure to enjoy the heck out of it.

Though there was one small problem, myself and a lady I queued with all day watched from the rail of the e-stage, dead center to the main stage - right in front of the gate where Bono comes out at the end and where Adam and Edge come out for Pride...
a spectacular view but sadly though the ropes that are used to pen the crowd in so that the band members can walk out into the crowd were too tight on the not so tall lady I watched the show with, who had a bit of an emergency situation as she tried to break free of the rope crushing her just below her neck, and so she tried to go underneath it, couldn't push the rope away far enough and ended up getting a bit bit stuck with the tight rope almost strangling her around her neck.

She had to be carried out by a security guy and get checked out during the last two songs. I went with her - thankfully she was all good, but it could have been so much worse. We watched the last song from the edge of the arena where Bono walked right past us singing the last lines of '13' and he disappeared down a corridor that was right in front of us - quite a surreal sight to see.

Overall a really great show, great setlist, and great company queuing up all day with my fellow U2 fans and seeing old U2 friends. Definitely not the very best of U2 shows I've seen, but it was still exceptionally good.
