    not enough punch meaning its not amazing as in average. is average weak? no. should i have used the word average? maybe, but my review wouldn't sound as good

    2001-10-16 Chicago

    BAND OF THE YEAR!

    Performance

    Another great show. One thing I thought was that they rushed through this show a little. 'Elevation' as usual rocked the house. I liked Bono's reference to 'Levitate' as 'Beautiful Day' took flight (Spirit lift us up!). There's a funny little dropout in 'Until the End of the World' where you can hear 'the Sweetest Thing'. 'New Year's Day' was average. The real first change of this leg is 'I Will Follow taking 'Out of Control's' place for the night. The band are clearly loving it, as did I. 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and 'Wake Up Dead Man' were really good. 'Stuck' and 'Kite' were bar standard here. 'Desire' took the place of 'Angel of Harlem', which was a nice change. A fun version nonetheless. 'Stay' was great, replacing 'Staring'. And it was kindaa relief from the rush the band were in. 'All I Want Is You' was fantastic, replacing 'Bad' for the evening (the previous night's version of 'Bad' was phenominal). The lead into 'Streets' from 'All I Want Is You' was pretty good, nothing extraodinary though. 'Streets' was really good that night, and the band are clearly enjoying themselves here. 'Still Haven't Found' was average, as was 'Pride'. From 'Bullet' through 'Walk On', the band sort of really rushed through things. The only exception was Bono's little speech before 'One'. Overall, I didn't really enjoy this show as much. Because of the change in set this is getting a 3.5.

    Sound

    I'd say 3.5 stars tops. Not much to say here.

    Audience

    As always, a great audience makes the show. However it's nothing special this night, so it's getting a 3.5 because these guys in the crowd were having a fun time.

    Overall

    Your average 3rd leg gig. Nothing special here. Special mentions to 'Elevation', 'I Will Follow', 'All I Want Is You' and 'Streets'. Average show if you like as little band speeches as possible. There are better ones out there. 3.5 Overall.
