1. That's definitely accurate!!

    (sarcasm)
  2. I will say as someone who’s happy for u2 to do the odd anniversary and greatest hits tour, I never want that to become the norm, to take over from touring the albums, thankfully I never think it will. That’s where I have the disagreements with fans criticising the tours that don’t promote new material. If u2 stopped releasing new albums and touring them then yeah I can understand why people find that less interesting but as of now they’ve basically squeezed an anniversary tour in between tours of new albums and then this tour coming up could be a short lived greatest hits of sorts but again the next step is probably a new album and new tour in a few years. Maybe they’ll fit an AB30 anniversary tour in 2021 as well but again it still doesn’t stop the band from releasing new material and touring it. JT30 in the context of the band’s career has been nothing more than a bonus tour for fans to enjoy, if they didn’t do it there wouldn’t be anything else to take its place so it makes no sense for people to complain about these types of tour. The same as this year, there will be people moaning again saying the band are a sell out blah, blah, blah, but the alternative is nothing, no tour no new material, nothing. So what’s the problem? (I should point out Pipo that I know you didn’t say you were against these types of tour, my comments are just in general not aimed at you).

If I consider all the evidences (the economic & logistic non-sense that I already explained here some days ago, the time non-sense, the continuous delays of an announcement for funny reasons, the fact that they said they will take a long break, the fact that a u2 Tour has never been prematurely announced by rumors (remember the surprise of JTT announcement or the surprise of SOI and relative tour), the fact that this will be a tour with a no clear concept which is not topical of contemporary U2), if I consider all these things, the only explanation left in my opinion is: there will be no tour. This is not a criticism to this page or to the people having good sources and making a hard and wonderful job in this page to keep us informed. It is just my two cents. Hope to be wrong.
There's only been one delay on the announcement that I'm aware of. It was set for early April. There were circumstances that caused it to be rescheduled which may or may not ever be public knowledge. The announcement was finally rescheduled recently and that's the only rescheduling that has been done. "Last week of April" and "early May" were both attempts to convey when the band wanted to announce the tour, but it was never actually scheduled at that time. There's been a lot of other guesses at the announcement date, but I'm not sure those were ever anything more than guesses. The election isn't a reason for the delay. It was only mentioned because that's how the information was passed along to me. "The week after the election."

The Joshua Tree tour first started to get mentioned in early December 2016 but to be honest I didn't believe they would do it. I was told on the 12th of December that they had remixed "Red Hill Mining Town" and started to believe it a bit more. The band made an announcement of it on December 24 and the tour was formally announced the second week of January. Leading up to the tour announcement, many of the dates were leaked. Songs of Innocence may have been a bit of a surprise, but the follow up, Songs of Experience certainly wasn't, with many dates leaking in the weeks leading up to the announcement. In fact a week before the announcement of the European leg dates, most of the dates had leaked in full through rumour.

And the mention of taking a long break? It was when they still had Australia planned for the end of 2018. So the long break was mentioned thinking they would have that part of the world behind them.

  4. interesting. People are starting to "hear things" about them coming.
  5. Almost.

Voodoo Lounge (1994), Bridges To Babylon (1997) and A Bigger Bang (2005) still were tours accompanied by a new album.

The Licks Tour (2002-2003) had 4 new songs while the 50 & Counting Tour (2012-2013) only had 2 new songs to go with it.
Not much, but more than nothing...

Then the No Filter Tours (2017-present) had the highly acclaimed Blue & Lonesome (2016) album to go with it. An album with cover versions only, but still the best thing they've put out since Voodoo Lounge.

But, yeah, not sure what your point is... but, yeah...
  6. That would be epic 100,000 people at the stadium - millions watching on tv.... but I doubt it’ll happen even though it’ll be good promotion for the tour I can’t see them flying to Australia in September than fly out till November again
  7. The locals will understand - my beloved Sydney Swans have a greater chance of appearing at the Grand Final than U2.

  11. Someone said there wouldn't be an announcement before this thread reaches page 200 so almost

Songs of Ascent tour should start in NZ then Oz, SE Asia, Europe, US , S America, US , Europe .

Would it be all that new though? Using the same JT 2017 stage (supposedly), I would imagine most of JT gets played with the same images as the JT 17 tour also. So I would say it is similiar to another leg vs. a brand new tour (most likely some type of hybid of the last 3 tours). I guess my point is the fact that there is no new material right now or on the horizon is not a reason this tour would not happen based on recent touring history and the fact that they have put out two full new albums since the last time they played this region. I don't know how you can just say its not happening based on no new material.
