1. If U2 aren't going to give us a new album in 2022, this is what I want more than anything. I get excited just thinking about the possibility of that bonus material!

After this year I don’t want any anniversary releases ever again. What will pop have? The album, the mixes that were on the best of, remixes, b sides and the live tracks that have already been released. Basically 4 cd’s worth of stuff you can already own put in a box and charged twice as much for.

I don’t expect anything for Pop. The anniversary rolls around at the same time The Joshua Tree hits 35.
  4. At this point only a fool would bet against late 2023 before we hear any new music.
Which will shatter their record of longest gaps between albums for NLOTH-SOI

Mid 2023 would equal the record give or take. I’m keeping my fingers crossed they can get an album out by or before then. Still wouldn’t write off very late next year at the earliest.

    80-90: 6 albums
    90-00: 4 albums
    00-10: 3 albums
    10-20: 2 albums
    20-30: 1 album?
    End of story.
  7. I think you're double counting ATYCLB - both the 90s and the Noughties only had 3 albums. Your tally has 15 albums so far when there's only been 14.

He’s probably thinking of the passengers album. Personally I don’t count that one either. I think we’ll get 2 albums this decade, could be the end after that though, but then again it might not be.
  9. I think you may by right about 2 more albums, 3 at a pinch. They’ll all be on the cusp of 70 when the next decade comes around (and some us fans aren’t too far behind), so it’s not a wild stretch of the imagination to see them pulling the plug in the next 10 years.
  10. Before the pandemic started Bono was talking about the 15 psalms of Songs of Ascent, he also said he'd like to record a straightforward rock n roll album, Edge has said numerous times they have lots of songs, always working on new material, Dallas said they're making a new album which we're gonna like, Adam said they did some recording in 2019 that got them to great starting points and complete songs, Ryan Tedder said he worked with the band again for some recordings... clearly they weren't ready to take a huge break after JT19, but COVID came and it just worked perfectly as a natural, temporary stop since they were going non - stop since 2014. I wonder how much of this material will make it to the next album(s), since they may never use any of it because it's pre-pandemic and maybe the new album will address pandemic related issues. It would've been nice if they had released Songs of Ascent at some point during the pandemic; they wouldn't have to worry about a tour, it could've just been a release of these so called psalms which would keep us all great company during the quarantine times. Then again, releasing a new album and not touring it isn't what U2 is about. Whatever it ends up being, I can't wait and I believe late 2022 could be a real possibility.
